They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

.308, and in a short, light, handy package like the Ruger GSR, or the Steyr Scout, or any other 7-lb bolt rifle. Why carry anything heavier for hogs.
Too, the CZ 527 Carbine in X39 is a pleasant surprise. 6-something lbs loaded and chambered in .308 Short.
If you have several 06 rifles, then, ok; as noted earlier in the thread it's versatility when handloaded is almost astonishing. Otherwise, .308
So now I'm intrigued with the 06. Noooooo ... not another caliber!!!Comment

I'm thinking of a Kimber Subalpine in 308 ... it's pretty light. I have a scout in 6.5 creedmoor ... maybe another option.Comment

I know you mean well, but that's not the point. A flat head screwdriver might work for a phillips head, but it's certainly not the best choice. I am by no means an expert or anything close to it, but I do believe in learning by using the right tool. I remain interested in your particular choice though (even though I'm strongly leaning to 308 or even 6.5 Creedmoor).Comment

with you have to handload or get beat up on ammo pricing. especially non lead
.308 is probably the least expensive option for ammo..Comment

For hunting, Barnes TSX, sku #30391. It is not a tipped version; weight is 123 grains, diameter is .310".
I've loaded it in both our 527's. Like other Barnes products, it shoots very well.
Looking to take some Antelope with it, provided I can get to within 150 yards.
For indoor shoot-houses, Sinterfire frangible 123's. However I am not inclined to use that bullet on any game animal; for that I'll stay with the above Barnes TSX.Comment

Wonder what spithoof uses in his [7.62] X 39 CZ...splithoof

Fantastic! I had put this rifle on the back burner for lack of a .310 non-lead Spitzer. I've a few boxes of their sku #30349, a 165 grain .308 TSX but those are earmarked for the GSR. Thanks, as always!.

Any of them would work.
Which are you most comfortable shooting and carrying in the field? Can you get lead free ammo for all on that list?
I would take two of them; I have seen a rifle get dropped and damaged in the field; buddy has to use another rifle to finish the hunt...
My Savage 99 in 300 Savage worked fine; put a hog in the freezer. 308 is a 300 Savage Improved... That was pre-lead ban, using 150gr Winchester factory ammo.Comment

Any of the ones listed will do fine.
In 308Win I shoot 130 or 150gr TTSX.
In 30-06 I shoot 150gr TTSX.
In 300win mag I shoot 150gr TTSX
In 7-08 I shoot 110gr TTSX
In 257R I shoot 80gr TTSX
In 25-06 or 257W I shoot 80 or 100gr TTSX
In 6.5X55 or 264win mag I shoot 100gr TTSX
In 7mag 120gr TTSX or 110gr TTSX
In the 6.5X300W I do not have yet I will shoot 127gr Barnes long range TTSX type
In 338win mag I shoot 185gr TTSX
In 44mag I shoot 200gr Barnes with the BIG HP.
If anyone needs help with Barnes loads for these or others just PM me. I have accuracy and chrono data along with the 4 main rules for Barnes bullets.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
