Which of the following rounds would you choose and why? These are the only selections:

    .308 Winchester
    .30-06 Springfield
    .300 Winchester Short Magnum
    .300 Winchester Magnum
    .280 Remington Ackley Improved

    Thanks!!!!!

Of your list, 308. You simply just don't need anything more. I know people who take hogs with 223/556.

      .308

Likely the lowest recoil of the bunch.

        .308 Winchester with a 110grain Barnes, wicked.

          .308, followed by the .30-06.

All of them have enough knockdown power. The .308 is going to be cheaper to practice with. If you reload, supplies are relatively cheap and readily available, as is finished hunting ammunition. Same for the '06, except perhaps a bit more expensive.

I have hunted wild boar with both .308 & .30-06. I've also used .44 mag.

I shot my first pig with my ol' trusty Rem 788 in 308 using Hornady American Whitetail 150 Grain. My son-in-law shot one the same day with his 270 handloads. Neither moved more than a few feet after being hit.

I’ve used 7.62x39 back in the mid 90s. Fast moving 100 pounders under 100 yards were easy enough to bag. Are you shooting for meat or trophy? If you use 308 unleaded please post results. I’m also searching for the right bullets to use for feral pigs, meat and trophy.

                    06. You can use the same round for all Ca hunting needs with no issues.

06 is the most versatile. lots of data to make very hot, plenty of data to make light/fast and medium.

280 AI and shoot 130 grain TTSX. That would give you the best ballance of bullet drop, wind, and recoil.

But if you know how to hunt you can use almost anything.

I knocked over DRT a ~280lbs boar with a slow 243 TTSX 80 grainer @220 yards. Know your limits, bullet construction, and good shot placement as these are more important than the cartridge you use.

For me it would be the 308. As to the why, because of the calibers listed that's the only one I have.
