SA vrs LA.. It really is not as much about the stiffness, that can be overcome.

One of the biggest benefits (for many) to SA, is you can rack when still on the gun. Not everyone cares about it, but a large segment of shooters do.

I smacked my face once running a long action like I do a short action.

If I ever get into shooting a cartridge that requires a long or magnum action, I would for sure do it in a tube chassis rifle, where the bolt rides in the tube and the cheek sits on top.

I wish Gary Eliseo would make a long action version of his Universal Match Rifle System. I have one of his older RTS chassis and it's great.

Over the last 10 years, the bullet of choice in the precision rifle game went from:

.308 caliber (Sierra 175 MatchKing with .243 G7 BC)

Down to

.264/6.5mm caliber (Sierra 142 MatchKing with .301 G7 BC)

Then down again to

.243/6mm caliber (Sierra 110 MatchKing with .315 G7 BC)

Next year there will be a similar thread asking what's the difference between 6mm Creedmoor, 6 XC, 243 Winchester AI, 6x47 Lapua, etc.

I think the 300 Savage neck down to 6.5 or the 250 Savage necked down to 6mm would make the perfect cartridges.

Next year it will be different since bullet mfg are coming out with longer, higher BC bullets that in the tactical PRS game, may be fine, but in the Long Range Target Shooting world (F-Class), most likely will not.

I would say no, only because it seems like as the bullets get longer/heavier for its diameter class, the bullets just don't shoot as well. They look awfully good on paper, but would either be super finicky. I am talking target shooting though.

I'll generally agree but history has shown that certain cartridges designed to do a specific job do dominate from time to time. The 6mm PPC being near the top of that list. The long neck, case capacity, bullet, and shoulder angle are the attributes that made that possible.

Read an article that said the 222 Remington held the world record for the smallest group at 100 yards until 2013 when it was beat by the 30 PPC. In the article it said the 6 PPC had yet to beat the 222's smallest group at 100 yards. Article was written in 2016 thought something may have changed?
