Installing a decent scope-what torque driver do you use?

I'm quite familiar with the aspects and usage of a torque wrench so last year when I needed to work on one of my rifles I bought an inch pound ratcheded TW from my local HF-only game in town that had one on hand.
Long ago I was taught to set the break point at about 3/4 of the required setting and work up from there. That POS from HF snapped off a honkin' 9/64" machine screw on my Ruger Mini 14 gas block at that initial 3/4 setting-it's now (the HF TW) somewhere out in the local landfill as I was too PO'd to take it back for a refund. Luckily there was enough exposed thread to grab it with a channel lock and successfully back out the stub.
Looked into the Wheeler Fat wrench line and chose the more expensive digital model as it was capable of any in between settings unlike the lesser priced version. Check them both out at Brownell's or Midway or?
Excellent tool but since I don't use it often I remove the battery while it rests.Comment

I used a Utica T-35 and have a T-100 to mount my Sphur QD mount on my S&B Ultrashort. There's a used with minimal use Utica T-100 on Ebay for $35 + 7.99 shipping right now: Utica TS-100 Adjustable Torque Screwdriver 1/4" Drive 0-100 oz/inLast edited by CAGLS; 11-02-2017, 11:46 PM.Comment

I don't believe in torque driver for $50 (price). Like AR15 Barrels mentioned, it is much better to get good brand, even used. Just calibrate it.
I am using torque drivers from my work, company let us borrow it from work. All drivers are all calibrated and certified every 3 month, and they are very expensive.
Just today I prepare torque limiter by X4 Perf-A-Torq 38A @ 63.5 in-lb to re-torque action for my Savage 10BA. Will do it on the weekend.Last edited by Palmaris; 11-03-2017, 12:25 AM.sd_shooter:

How is doing it correctly overthinking it?
Do you know how many shorn screws ive seen on mounts in the past 40ywars, or how many scopes dont hold zero because the rings or rail are not tight enough?
This isnt some anal thing i pulled out of the air, the products i am talking avout call for a specific torque value, and even those that dont will fail above a certain amount.Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Originally posted by repubconservPrint it out and frame it for all I careOriginally posted by el chivoI don't need to think at all..XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOriginally posted by pjsigYou are talking to someone who already won this lame conversation, not a brick a wall. I agree that most people have never used a torque wrench and would have no idea what a certain amount of inch-pounds (or even foot-pounds for that matter) "feels" like. Therefore, having a driver for scopes may not be a bad idea.
Even a cheap Harbor Freight inch-pound wrench is better than no wrench for the complete novice. Some folks here, such as yourself and others, would not fall into the "novice" group.Last edited by smoothy8500; 11-03-2017, 7:35 AM.Comment
