I read good things about the savage axis 2.
That's funny. I saw this thread and my comment WAS going to be, "How about a good single stage reloading press."
Good to see you thinking ahead.

Single stage is bought. Going to reload and shoot out of my 18 inch Ss ar for now. Since I am reloading I'm going to move up to 308 as cost not isn't a big deal for ammo

        I'm currently loading for 308, 223 and 6.8.
        It's an addiction.

Its like the first step to doing it right...

And in due time you will start to see why loading ammo for a bolt action is that much better...

Fire formed brass and neck sizing only anyone?

I upgraded the stock, added some decent glass and found that it will shoot sub-MOA groups as long as I'm doing my part.

My success with the inexpensive Savage gave me the confidence to go ahead and drop the cash on a Rem 700 custom-clone. It will help if you are already reloading and knowledgeable on load development.
Nothing wrong with upgrading a savage action. Easily done. A lot of prefit barrels too.

With a 1/9 or 1/12, there is decent/good ammo you can purchase for that rifle.

AE 50 gr varmint tipped (gray tip) works great and is sub MOA in my R700 as well as my ARs.

Fiocchi 50 grain vmax is similarly good ammo that is sub MOA out of my R700 and ARs.

Both can be had for $8-9 a box of 20 if you look online. From Ammoseek, just found some AE 50 grain varmint tip for $7.49 a box of 20.
