How much should we spend a bench rifle?

I feel I spend too much on this rifle unfinish rifle build
    Start with

    R700 BDL in 300 win mag 750
    26" Hart button barrel 400
    Trued Action and install 400
    AICS 1.5 nofolding 1000
    Vortex scope 500
    Muzzle brake 120
    Cheap Caldwell bipod 30

    Cost 3200+
Is that really worth the price compared to RPR?

If the rifle made you happy, priceless

For me I will go with RPR and spend the rest of money on a scope.

Can't resist as there's a lot happening here....

1stQ: as much as it takes to make you happy.
List: don't forget the trigger, base, rings, scope, bipod/bags, spotting scope, press, dies, measuring tool and components.
Cost: you're number shows why Ruger killed it at a good price/value calculation. And there's already an aftermarket for it.
$3,200: for another $800 you can have a full custom, resale goes from 75% (if you're lucky) to 90%.
Photos: Confusing. If they're yours you already know the answer!

It would cost a lot more to finish the build. I would use that money to get RPR.
P.S i got the reloading setup which cost me another grand.
I didn't upgrade trigger, and I have cheaper scope base.

JMHO, but yes it's worth it.

You selected a caliber that is not available in the RPR so you needed to go custom in your case. You have a better barrel and a longer barrel than is available on the RPR. You will have a better rifle when you are done than you would have with a stock RPR. The RPR was made to allow folks to get into precision shooting without spending a lot of money to get up and running. Is the RPR a decent rifle...yes, does it compare to a quality custom build...no.

buy once , cry once . If you are buying something you're not happy with, then what's the point.

Not to be a d bag....

How do you shoot sitting, standing and prone?

Can you shoot close to the accuracy of the firearm....

              I can't. I have a 1/4" gun from bench and offhand I am lucky to shoot 4"

So for me, gear is fun but before I comment on spending too much or too little... or where do you find value, I want to know how you shoot...
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
              (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

I usually shoot bench with bipod. I believe the rifle can shoots 1/4. But I'm suck at it. With my hand load only available get to 1/2 to 3/4. Which shoots about same as my custom Ar10.

I got this rifle before the RPR available, just if I could go back into the time. I will do the same as you.

If you ask me . . . this is a complete waist of money
You'll regret this build after 2 weeks
Probably already the next day after you received your rifle

                      2 options :

                      1. Add min $ 800.00 to your budget
                      2. Buy a nice used rifle and install a new quality barrel

                      Just my .02

Problem is: If you wanted to sell/trade it for a Ruger RPR, no one would be willing to pay for that rifle what you paid for it, and to others, it's probably not worth even half of what you paid.

And not because it's a crappy rifle, the specs seem fine in their own right, but because it is a rifle that has been customized to someone else's preferences by an unspecified gunsmith.

If it were a custom rifle built on a Defiance or Surgeon action, put together by Surgeon Rifles or GA Precision etc. THEN the gun would have some pedigree or provenance, as collectors would say, and have some resale value.

Depends. How much money are you going to spend on the shooting bench?

Pics of the custom AR10? I built a .308 a while ago in that platform and love it, enjoy seeing other builds. I have another large frame receiver, upper & lower, and thinking of starting that one but maybe in different caliber.
