30-30 ammo too long?

That bottom ammo is 30-30 ammo.
By the way how did you get that dent in your 30-06 ammo?
If I read your post correctly you are coming up 1/2 inch short?
Make sure you don't have a 25-35 or a 32-20.
Take a picture of the barrel stamp.
Take one round and pull out the bullet and after dumping the powder try the case in your gun.
If it fits go with a flat nosed bullet.

No, I think you misunderstood. My rifle is a 30-30 Marlin 336. The ammo is in a white box like the one that is pictured. The box is labeled 30-30. The ammo in the box has brass that is stamped 30-30. The problem is that the bullets do not look like the bullets pictured with the white box. The bullets look like the bullets in the 30-06 picture, and are too long to cycle in a lever action.

A friend had the same problem with his Winchester "30-30" and when he brought it to me to check out... Low and behold... 32 WCF stamped on the barrel.... Check the markings on the barrel for the caliber...

Sounds like reloads, maybe so, maybe not, there was years ago some Savage
bolt clip fed 30-30 rifles around. Maybe he got some 'loads for one of those
old Savage rifles ?

All the 30-30 ammo I have and have had is like the ammo with the 30-30 box with the really wide round nose... I've never seen 30-30 ammo with a pointed tip... Good luck

I'll double check the barrel stamp, but when you hold one of these cartridges next to some federal rounds I have, you can see that they are longer and the tips aren't as rounded.

Wait wait wait are you saying that the length of the projectile or bullet as its called (nothing to do with the case) is to long to be moved from the magazine tube to the chamber when you work the lever action? If this is the case don't use that ammo... Personally I would never use pointed ammo in a magazine that is a tube with the nose of the bullet sitting on the primer of the next

From the photos it looks like there is a dent in the longer cartridges. If so that would indicate necked down reloads. I would take a micrometer and look at both the length and diameter of the longer cartidges to see if they are the same as the good 30-30 cartridges.

Could be .30-30 ammo, but loaded with spitzer bullets for a single shot, such as a contender. If the shoulders are pushed forward, could have been fired in a .30-30 Ackley improved. I'd say they sound like reloads.

If the bullets look like the 30-06 bullets chances are it is reloaded ammo.
In the past reloaders with single shot rifles like Harrington&Richardson or Ruger #1 would reload with a bullet that had better ballistics.
As was said earlier in a tubular magazine very few shooters are going with a streamlined bullet because they don't want the rifle recoiling to ignite a round in the magazine.
I would still pull a bullet and see how the brass fits the chamber.

Yes! Exactly. Believe me, I'm not going to use it. Just not sure if I can sell it to someone with a clean conscious.

I just looked ad a box of.32 Spl (same OAL as .30 30) a cartridges 1/2" longer will not fit in the box, in fact even 3/16" of an inch longer than factory would have to be forced into the box.

This makes sense and is what I expect. It's just that it looks factory, so I was curious if it was possible that factory ammo would be made with the wrong bullets.
Now I'm wondering if I can sell it with a clean conscious to someone with a single shot since I have no idea how they were reloaded, what bullets were used, or if they are even the right bullets.
