    50Cal:

Some confusion, the Zel Tactilite T2 is mag fed, not single shot. Zel does offer 3 single shots - the T1, S1, and S3. But...as noted, no .50 DTC or 510 DTC [for someone in CA, I suggest the .50 DTC to avoid some legal "less-informed" concluding that .510 is illegal no mater what since its over ".50 cal".]

    Alternatives for an upper are:

ATF has given thumbs up to .50 BMG because the lands are generally at .500. They're not going to say DTC that uses the same bullets is illegal. California had banned only the .50 BMG. Some manufacturers have avoided the DTC because it's a bit of an unknown and BOHICA had some exploding gun probs that was not the fault of the caliber itself. Nonetheless BOHICA refuses to build DTC's afterward and other manufacturers have followed suit.

And it's easy to see why. if people think you can use the bolt cam to set the shoulder back on loaded ammo (loaded BMG ammo), it needs a reset on expectations, and the easiest and fastest way to do that is raise the price on market entry.

Still love the idea and wouldn't hesitate to buy one assuming I could get DTC dies to fit a LEE BMG press. I know when to form ammo (ie without live primers and powders at the same time....)

Of course (or not of course) I did take a .500 gauge and perform the plunk test on my own 50 cal safari rifle "just in case". needn't have been concerned, pac nor knows how to cut a legal barrel.

There was s group buy a couple of years back, Lee would make them if they had a certain number of orders. another member here set everything up.
It's the only piece of reloading equipment I own, and don't own a DTC anything yet, but has always been on the wish list.

Beowulf pushes a 300 grain bullet at 1800fps and has a max range of ~200 yards.
BMG pushes a 800 grain bullet at 2700fps and has a max range of ~3000 yards.

                They are slightly different.

50 cal ban is any gun that chambers 50BMG. no chamber 50 BMG, good to go.

                    >50 cal ban is to not be considered a DD (shotgun slugs and specific sporting rifles are exempted), metric is a .500 pin gauge shall not drop down the barrel. Because calibers (the real definition of the word caliber) refer to the bore diameter, the lands that stick out will block an even smaller pin gauge. In our cases, a .510 bore, unless severely worn or damaged, will not pass a .500 pin gauge, thus not a DD in any definition of the term.

If it DID pass a .500 pin gauge, makers of such barrels and rifles would apply for a sporting exemption, and there's plenty of >50 cal cartridges out there for dangerous game hunting that meet this criteria.

Thus, you see cases out there like the 700WTF, using a 50BMG case cut at the shoulder and fireformed straight. Or the 24 gauge FH or 58 Hubbel cartridges.

Anyways, yes the 50 beowulf and even the .510 beowulf wildcat (yes this exists) are legal in CA.

Smart nonetheless. I have the lee press and I think it would be perfectly serviceable for a decade at least to make DTC cartridges. Longer if kept well oiled.

I don;t own a DTC but if I ever buy one I know what two calgunners to ping for dies

                          Sir,

California's .50 BMG ban applies to Rifles only.

It still remains legal to own, possess and shoot, a firearm chambered for the .50 BMG cartridge provided that the weapon is not a rifle (fired from the shoulder).

Please refer to Penal Code sections 30530 and 30610.

It also remains legal to possess a rifle that fires the .50 BMG round if the weapon was registered as a .50 BMG Rifle under PC 30905, or was registered as an Assault Weapon under PC 30900.

I actually built this with the intention of putting a BMG upper on it,
just havent figured out how optics would work to make it feasable,

havent bought an upper yet, since I dont want a couple thousand dollar paperweight take room in my space yet, since that is virtually what it will be if I never take it out, and all the details arent figured out yet. Its nice and safe and secured at whatever manufacturer I ever decide to go with now.

As you can tell a 50 has been on my wishlist for a while, with the DTC dies, "Non-Rifle" "Firearm" Lower...
I bought a Beowulf upper to get my 50 fix for now, but its not the same as the big boys.
