you want the CZ527 in whatever barrel flavor you want, but you want the bavarian stock.

And you will know it as well the first time you handle one in the gun shop. You'll close your eyes, shoulder it, open your eyes and be looking down the sights. And then you will know that your <$1000 will be well spent.

For your sights, I will speculate that NECG will have something for you. Worth whatever price tag they put on the sight. Again, you'll know the money was well spent when you hold it in your hand.

Ideally I'd like an aperture rear sight like a Garand or No.4 Enfield as opposed to blade and slot. Caliber. 223. Price range up to $1000 absolute maximum. I would prefer Walnut stock - I like the olde worlde look.

CZ527's don't normally come with aperture sights.

But if the blade sights that come with the 527's are acceptable... you can throw in the MVP Patrol in your shopping list too.

Rem 700, Ruger 77 etc I'd look at the used rack for an older Rem700V or Ruger 77V.

Almost any heavy barreled 223 bolt gun can have a Lyman peep sight installed on the receiver and a front sight either screwed or clamped on to the barrel.

The Ruger Gunsite Scout has "Garand-like" iron sights


In fact, I think they are directly borrowed from the Mini-14 Ranch Rifle.

They provide a Garand-like sight picture, but the rear sight is not click-adjustable like Garand sights, you need a small allen wrench to adjust windage or elevation. So it's more of a set-it-and-forget-it kind of deal.

The scout sight is attached to the scope ring mount point on the receiver and is easily taken off and one of these installed in its place. I have one of these on my 77RSI. The windage adjustment is easy with provided knob.

nice that the aperture is replaceable, NECG makes 3 sizes.

They will be the finest iron sight you will handle unless you are into the seriously boutique stuff.

Factor in the cost of the gun and you are still under $1000.

You're a good sport, let us know what you end up with and post pics. I have the cz527 in .223 and reload to what the magazine length allows me. It's a good rifle. I have two zastavas but in .308 calibers

FWIW by the way (Because I do not have a CZ527, and maybe I should rectify that), I do have a CZ550 which is the (extra) big brother of the 527. I put NECG sights on it, though leaf type, and it's pretty hard to miss steel targets standing offhand at 100 yards.

If you don't plan on shooting farther than 100 yards it might be an option....

Second this. I had the x39 version a long time ago, and sadly sold it off when I divested myself of all my x39 caliber guns. I missed that little carbine, and several years later, I finally was able to get another one, this time in .223. This gun is a terrific gun.

Only complaint I guess I'd have of this Mini-Mauser is that it has a proprietary, single-stack magazine. If they set up this .223 carbine with a true, 5-round internal, double stack magazine that sat flush with the bottom of the rifle, that would be the total titts machine.
