What a cute little gun. If you wanted BIG and black with out of the box precision, you should have gone with a less expensive AR50. Yes, I know a FFL who can get them in CA chambered in 510 DTC.

Here are the reasons why I went with .300 win mag and not .338 or larger. And I already have a nice .308

      1. I don't reload so I want cheaper ammo
      2. Ammo is more readily available at local shops for those days when I need to grab ammo on range day
      3. Barrel life will last a lot longer
      4. I don't have a place that I can shoot very far. My range goes out to 440 and the closest place is 2 hours away and their furthest is 1000 yards which they only allow once a month. .300 win mag is plenty fine at that distance.

                Golden boy,
There's no need to justify your purchase. It's what you wanted, and you are happy. I agree that it's better if you don't reload, but you SHOULD reload for both. However, this has come up a number of times and I do not know where it's coming from.

Your statement that the barrel life is much longer on a 300WM vs a 338 Lapua is absolutely FALSE. The Lapua pushes a slow bullet through a larger bore. Really, just look at the powder amount needed for a WM vs Lapua, it's surprisingly not that big. The 300WM is a barrel burner, plain and simple. For factory ammo, the Lapua will probably last twice as long as the 300WM. Folks don't get 300WM to shoot 500 yards so it's often pushed and it is a 1,000 round barrel.

It's always varies based on how the are loaded and shot, but whoever started this crap about barrel life was talking through his butt and doesn't understand guns.

If shot them before and they are extremely manageable, can probably shoot it all day. I haven't shot mine yet though I assume it wouldn't be much different. U always gotta worry when inside the package comes a pair of ear plugs lol

Find a longer range to really shoot the 300 then.
A 223 is all you need for 440yds.

Golden, you better figure out how to shoot that thing. I'll give you until October, then we are going to Sac and shoot at 1k at the Oct 3rd/4th long range match.

Is he one of those guys that thinks buying superior external ballistics will make him a better shooter?

There is a huge trend on new shooters wanting 6.5's for the same reason.
They read all the people posting how 308 is crap and you gotta have a 6.5...
None of those new shooters starting with a 6.5 are going to shoot any better than if they started with a 308.

If you ever frickin listened to me, you woulda known... Remember when you were ripping through mag after mag with that RUM without a pause, and I said to slow it down because you were going to cause issues, so you waited 30 seconds then ripped through another mag?

(and then I went and bought it from you, go figure. )
