A 100# rifle isn't a rifle, its an artillery piece! Keep me posted, I would like to come out and see how that bad boy shoots.

2000 Yard Rifles Needed

I have seen guys use a transmission hoist to put a 280 pound rifle on the bench so 100 pounds isn't so bad. I will try and post a picture.Lynn Dragoman, Jr.

Already posted on the Long Range forum...
*************
I'm the URSA Facilitator (and Webmaster). I have been unable to reach LynnJr because he is currently at a range where there is no cell service or very limited cell service and these corrections need to be made immediately. The added info is provided FYI and action.
Corrections:
1. The group is NON-commercial with no affiliations.
2. There are no officers, much less a President. Those formally involved are listed on the Contacts page of the group's website - http://www.unlimitedrange.org/contacts.html Anyone else claiming formal/official relationship to the organization is misinforming you.
3. There are no "owners"! ALL funds and hardware (in hand and on order) have been contributed to help get things going with NO expectation of reimbursement.
4. Any "fee", IF one is requested, will only be to cover maintenance of range gear, pay any fee we have to incur to gain access to a venue, and other such directly-related out-of-pocket expenses. NOBODY is getting paid for their services to the group.
Additional Info:
1. This will be a formal URSA event, the first one in the US. Shooters that qualify to shoot for Level Points (points accumulated to be identified officially as having progressed to one of the four Achievement Levels). Details ("rules") are provided at http://www.unlimitedrange.org/operations.html
2. Each Shooter, Shooter's Spotter, if applicable, and Range Staff who will be on the line will need to complete the Liability Release portion of this form - http://www.unlimitedrange.org/Liabil...20Rev%20NC.pdf Those interested are asked to download, print, and complete the form before coming to the event. Shooters also need to fill out the Build Sheet portion of the form.
3. Basically this first event is a "limited range" (limited to 2500 yards until we can scope out and arrange longer distance venues), get-acquainted event with opportunities for folks that can hit the gong 5 out of 10 record shots to earn points toward Achievement Levels. The Operation page (link above) explains all.
4. All those coming need to clearly understand that they need to bring water and food as there will be none provided and no services will be available. We will meet at a rally point and drive out together. Exact location will NOT be announced publically. If the venue is determined to require a 4WD to access, everyone will be advised in advance. IF you decide you can still make it with your vehicle and you get bogged down you are likely to received very limited sympathy. And, of course, blocking the access road will be "frowned" upon. Do NOT assume that the Auto Club or similar service will retrieve your vehicle.
5. Privacy will be respected! Anyone wishing to take photos or film MUST ask all individuals in camera view whether they are OK being photographed/filmed BEFORE taking photos/filming. Also, taking photos of vehicles and/or shooters/spotters gear without PRIOR permission of the owners will result in you being asked to leave! We hope to attract folks that have innovative and otherwise interesting gear. Their willingness to share images is their call, not the photographers.
6. While we are fully prepared to help folks get on target, we are NOT offering instruction-for-fee and are NOT affiliated with anyone that is. You do not need to take a class to be able to shoot URSA.
7. To save a bit of searching on our site, Shooters are welcome to field any rifle that is "LOCALLY legal" and SAFE TO SHOOT (without contraptions to fire from a distance). It is your responsibility to determine whether your rifle meets these requirements BUT your gear will be checked to confirm compliance. The URSA Regional Director's/Chief Range Officer's decisions are final! Those having gear "outside the norm" are asked to contact the Regional Director (in this case, LynnJr) before the event. Here is Lynn's official contact info:

8. Realistically, the vast, vast majority of rifles are not going to be able to engage targets consistently at 2000 yards and beyond. The Operations page describes the way we will be culling through contestants. If you are wondering if you can just blaze 1000 rounds down range from your .223 in hopes that you will hit the target, PLEASE do not come out. Qualification require that you hit a 37" round gong at 2000 yards 3 out of 10 consecutive shots. If you can, then you move on to earning Level Points and competing against your fellow shooters. Please take the time to run your ballistics on JBM (http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin..._drift-5.1.cgi) and then evaluate whether you have enough horsepower and optics elevation. While holding over at 2000 yards and beyond is of course possible, making that happen for 3 out of 10 shots (or better) is much less likely. If you think you are into giving it a try, we very much welcome you.
In closing, for now, please note that a substantial amount of time and capital have been invested to date to help promote and facilitate this shooting discipline. We will do our best to make the experience enjoyable and worth your while. We look forward to YOU helping to make that happen.

Hi again:
I posted just above to get it up ASAP - mainly to get the corrections out there.
Please note that what Lynn is describing is just the first event this year - and really the first year of actual, formal shooting under URSA "rules". [There was a fun shoot in VA last Spring.]
We also are looking at the general "Barstow" area where distance is NO issue (though you'll need a 4WD).
I personally have three rifles in build, two of which are wildcats north of .375 caliber - the 3rd is a 338AX (338 LM AI variant). Waiting on my smith for 2 of them and my die maker for the 3rd. All gear in hand at their ends, just their time and waiting my turn. That noted, I will be at every match in this Region (CA and NV).
If you know of folks that would be interested in being the main guy (the Regional Director) in another Region, please ask them to e-mail me at webmaster@unlimitedrange.org. Regional "boundaries" are listed on our Contacts page - http://www.unlimitedrange.org/contacts.html
Notwithstanding that the Operations page is a long read, it will answer a lot of question.
Shoot well and far!

Oscar
I was at the range then went to an appointment.
We have a 2000 yard location but nothing for 2500 yards at this time. I hope to find a location soon but no gaurantee on that.
Do to a medical issue I had to have someone else pack my rifle around today and he put three rounds into one very small hole at 100 yards.
The standard 338 Lapua will be subsonic at 2000 yards but it can still be used.
Most capable rifles will need 75 moa to reach 2000 yards.
