Guys we are going to test out a target system at 2000 and 2500 yards very soon and if all is well we will be holding a 2000 yard match shortly after that.
The president/owner of the URSA is getting the 37 inch gongs welded up as of yesterday so they will hold the IRIS target system.
When a hit is made there will be a light array that lights up too let you know of the hit.
We can remotely reset the system up to 4500 yards.
I am posting this as I expect a match in March weather permitting and want to give everyone a heads up especially those who have been contacting me.
The biggest delay right now is in finalising the location.
We have Barstow and the Clearlake Berryessa areas in mind unless someone has a place were we can shoot to 2000 yards closer by the bay area?
I am working on a ranch near Petaluma but if we get it there will be no dogs or smoling while on the ranch.
For more info check out the URSA website.

The matches are open to everyone and I dont know what the fee for shooting will be as of yet. I am guessing around $25 but don't quote me on that. We are doing a practice run to make sure the gongs will handle the bigger rounds as will the portable target stands.
No sense holding a match with untested equipment and ruin everyones fun.
Any legal gun is welcome as long as it is deemed safe to fire. I fully realise that the big boomers have some special handling requirements not necessary with the 50 BMG and smaller rounds so if your shooting something way out of the norm don't worry just let me know so it can be explained to those not familiar with these platforms so we dont scare anyone off.
Bolts out at all times unless the rifle used makes this impossible then a chamber flag will be required. Guys this isn't a request it is a safety rule so no exceptions allowed ever.
Chamber flags will be gven out for free for those without one.
You will also need hearing and eye protection to fire wether your own or borrowed.
My truck only has a 6 foot bed on it so bring as much gear as you can. I will bring four 37 inch gongs and all the target frames plus spare parts with the target system so throw in a bench or two plus guns, ammo and shooting stools I am fully loaded.
Any help in setting up is appreciated as the gongs weigh 118 pounds each without brackets.
I usually have shim material in my glove box but I don't have any spare screws due to all the possibilities so if you don't have your gun dialed in please bring your own longer screws. In the past we had a portable generator but with the new target system in my truck there is no room so we can't grind you any screws. If in doubt buy long and we can file them to fit in a pinch.
All the matches are remote so bring everything you will need for the day and pack it all out with you at the end of the day so we dont have litter issues.
I might as well say it here that the number one thing borrowed/forgot at home is toilet paper. I keep one roll behind my seat in a ziploc bag. Everyone is welcome to it but the ladies get preference and once it is gone it is gone. If you want to drive home with a complete shirt and both socks please put a roll in your vehicle now. I always bring a shovel.

and generally use a repeater action, but even with long MTC solids single feeding is easy. Not sure why anyone would ever want to lift their head between shoots, not so much for speed but for the need to maintain constant cheek-weld and body position.
