    Non CA compliant M&P shield

I'm looking at trying to get a non ca compliant S&W M&P shield for CC in Orange County. Don't know if I'll even be able to since SSE went away but am wondering if I'd even be able to register it as a carry gun once I get my CC license.

If anyone knows how I can go about getting a non ca compliant shield as well that would be much appreciated. I missed my original appt due to military training last year and now I have to wait until Sept this year for my new appt. Lame!

    Thanks!

Off-Roster semi-auto pistols can be legally acquired via...
    1. LEO sale
    2. PPT
    3. Out-of-state intra-familial gift

If you do not have immediate family living in another State, then you will need to find one for sale in CA in order to acquire it via PPT.

Used Off-Roster S&W Shield pistols seems to be selling in the $500-750 range in the WTS forum.

Thanks. No way am I paying that much here in CA... that's ridiculous. Looks like I'll have to find someone out of state for a private party transfer. Thanks!

I'm not sure out of state PPT is legal except for intra-familial.

^^^ ppt must be between 2 California residents face to face.

You may not being saving as much money as you think. First, there are at most 6 possible people in the world who can legally transfer a handgun to you from out of state, your parents, and both sets of grandparents. It would also have to be a gift from them.

That aside, on top of the actual price of the gun, sales tax will have to be paid in both states. (Assuming your parents/grandparents live in a state with sales tax.) Sales tax will also have to be paid in California, you'll have to pay for FedEx shipping and the FFL's dealer's private party transfer fee, and the California DROS fee.

Once you add up all those costs, you could be looking at paying $150 or more in fees just to transfer the gun to you, plus the time and effort to find an FFL who understands intrafamiliar transfers and is willing to do one.

Pretty sure there's a few more people who can transfer besides those listed. He didn't mention whether, or not, he had any adult children living out of state. that ups the intra-familiar transfer numbers from 6 to.....?

Possibly. I assumed from his mentioning of military training that he was young enough to not have adult children.

                    Under CA laws/regulations...
PPT = face-to-face transfer between CA residents facilitated by a CA FFL dealer.

If one of the parties involved is not a CA resident, then it is not a PPT.
If the firearm is being shipped, then it is not a PPT.

If it is not a PPT, then the handgun must be on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale or be exempt from it.

There is a reason people are paying $650+ for off roster Shields. If anyone could just PPT them from out of state from random sellers, then they wouldn't be selling for that price.

Just get a Cali compliant Shield. Riflegear had them on sale last year for $424 OTD.

I understand most folks here hate the thought of using a compliant gun, but I tried both and there's virtually no difference between the 2.

LOL. That's the most common statement people have been saying lately when they want to buy an off-roster handgun in CA, but missed the SSE window for whatever reason when they could have purchased the same firearm for 10%-25% less in price.

Unfortunately, that's CA for you. You have to 'pay to play' one way or another with firearms ownership here.

If you find someone selling any off-roster gun from OOS, you will have to bring the guy over to California, establish his residency here, register his gun in his name. After all that, you can bring him over to Turner's to do PPT. Something tells me, it will cost you way more

While it is ridiculous, it is what it costs.

When I bought my new non-CA Shield in 2013, IIRC I paid around $700 after DROS, tax, and SSE fees from a popular FFL.

When you live in CA, just be prepared to be violated.
