Why not get what you like and not what everyone else likes? Be an individual.

    My advice?

    Full size.
    9mm.
    Manual safety.

When I first decided that I wanted a handgun, after doing some research, I decided that I wanted to go with a Beretta. I thought that the PX4 felt better in my hands than the 92FS, but I found that something about it just felt off when I was actually shooting it, unfortunately. Ended up getting a 92FS instead.

That being said, knowing what I know now, I probably should have rented and then bought a M&P9.

OP, can I ask you a question? What steered you most towards the PX4 over the Glock? Is it because of the manual safety feature?

I purchased my PX4 .40 as my first hand gun. I absolutely love it. I have shot the G17 and the ergos on the grip just don't work for me. Felt like i was holding a block. I have also shot, M&P9, Shield 9, G23, SW SD9. I for some reason always go back to my PX4. Maybe I'm just used to it, but my accuracy is much better with it than the others. My uncle who is a retired from LASD recommended it to me and I can't even begin to tell you how many guns he has and has shot. He owns PX4 in .45 and loves it. I wouldn't let anyone tell you its a bad gun. I got weird looks when buying it, but it felt fantastic in my hand.

Both are good, buy whatever you shoot best.
If they shoot the same get the Glock.

I've owned both and put many thousands of rounds through each. The Glock is better in my hands so I sold my PX4.

The Sig SP2022 looks nice. Is it a high bore axis like the P226 though? I'm more inclined to guns with a low bore axis and are compact as in not too tall and not too wide. I'm trying to stay around the 4" barrel range because I'm a rather small guy, 5'7", so the smaller guns fit me better.

Unfortunately the LGS close by doesn't have ANY Berettas for rental or for sale so I'll have to venture further out in my county to get my hands on a PX4.

I don't care for an external safety, I'd much rather go for a decocker or nothing at all which is nice about the striker fired but I don't mind it on guns like 1911s. The Beretta slide mounted takes some getting used to for me. Playing with a 92 it's too for of a reach for me. Is it about the same distance/placement on the 92 Compact?

That's the problem I have with the Gen 3 Glock 19. Maybe I'm just not used to it but it's chunky.

You should go try both and decide which one works best for you. The handgun market is so competitive that you can't really buy a "bad" gun if you stick with major manufacturers and their popular models; Springfield Armory, Smith & Wesson M&P, Glock, Beretta and Colt etc.

I own the Beretta Px4 Storm Type F (full size) in 9mm, when I rented a variety of handguns at my local indoor range (Reed's Indoor Range), it was the gun that I shot best with and had the softest felt recoil. This is also the gun I always take with me if I have a new shooter join me at the range. Its mild recoil, reliability and easy handling makes it comfortable for new shooters.

Ultimately, make sure the ergonomics of the pistol work for you, if it is not comfortable, it won't work well no matter how many people tell you how great a particular gun is.

If you think it looks nice, wait until you shoot it. It's an extremely nice shooter.

The bore axis on the SP2022 isn't going to be all that much different than the PX4, IMO, so if you're interested in the PX4 in that regard, the SP2022 isn't going to differ much. Low bore axis isn't Sig's forte...if you're looking for that, you're better off looking at striker-fired guns.

Regarding size, I'd focus more on the grip size than barrel size, although the SP2022 is 3.9" in barrel length. It's grip is long, though...the magazine base plate has much to do with that. It has a large pinkie extension but can be replaced with a flat mag base plate. People do carry SP2022s, though, so the grip can't be all that bad, size-wise.

I have both the Glock 19 and PX4 and like both.

The glock has tons of aftermarket support.

I did get the "stealth" safety levers for my PX4, which convert it to a G model (decocker only). Much better setup. Also put in a Beretta Cougar D spring, which helps with the trigger. Only issue is that I had to wait weeks for the parts. If you want to do something for a glock, you can order and have the parts in days.

My PX4 has been just as reliable as my Glock. They both shoot a little differently, so it's a good idea to try both. When I first got my PX4, I was shooting a lititle low and to the left. With a little practice, I am now right on.

You can't go wrong with either. Try them both. Then pick one. Or, better yet, get both.

Here's a pic of both (taken pre-safety lever mod on the PX4).

I really dislike the Gen3 Glock 19 grip so how does that compare to the SP2022? I know the Sig also has interchangeable backstraps so that might help.

I've no idea. I've never messed with a Glock 19 (although I'm considering the Gen4), but when I first held my SP2022, I was in love. The Sig comes with a small and medium backstrap...although there's a large backstrap, they are hard to find -- Sig carries them but tends to run out of stock quickly. The stippling is just right...not to rough while also being rough enough.

The only thing some people complain about the 2022 is it's large decocker. Some people unintentionally ride it so that the slide won't lock back after the last round, but that's a training issue...it's never happened to me.

Ride with the shooting hand or the support hand?

Shooting hand. I keep my shooting hand's thumb a bit to the left, so that it doesn't touch the decocker...that works fine.

EDIT: This whole time, I've been talking about the wrong lever...not the damned decocker, but the slide catch. :/
