There's probably more folks that haven't taken classes and just shoot at paper targets vs. folks that draw from a holster.

      I respect you opinion.

I was planning to do this logman mod for 2 Baer and 1 SAC Warren 1911s.

Can you elaborate in detail before I start and mess up?

      Thank you

The link in the first post has a good pic. Get a small triangular file, mount the slide stop in a vase, then file out the area shown. Then you can reblue the bare metal if appropriate. It's pretty hard to screw up if you're careful. Worst case you're out a slide stop.

I'm not one to freak out about finish wear from use, but this mod makes reassembly easy and prevents an avoidable blemish on the frame. It's a no-brainer in my opinion. Obviously some of the better 1911 manufacturers agree if they're selling modified stops.

A 3 sided mini file is good to start the notch. Finish up the notch with a rounded mini file and you'll get that nice beveled look. Plus it goes in smoother.

Credit card, tape, grooved notch, slide lock set per manufacturer, be careful, the scratch is a badge of honor, use a sharpie to blend it in, the pistol has lost value, leave it unfired and as a safe queen and so on.
So Steve, give me something new as to how to avoid the 1911 idiot scratch, after all this is a forum and here I am.

I generally just buy used 1911's pre-idiot-marked. Problem solved.

Why do you have to re-blue it? To prevent rust or is for esthetics?

This ^^^ Or any old and used gift card or plastic card. Super easy, can find one anywhere, free, and takes no time.

Filing your slide stop? WTF?! LOL. Talk about overkill!

Just use a small piece of plastic. Keep it with your cleaning kit. With 1 old credit card you can make a few.

I mean, if you have a $5K plus 1911, I understand buying a slide stop with the cut out, or filing the slide stop to be ultra safe, but otherwise is seems a bit much...

I don't care about scratches on my guns As I try to wear them out.
California's politicians and unionized government employees are a crime gang that makes the Mexican drug cartels look like a Girl Scout Troop in comparison.

Scratches from actual use and holster wear, which I love the look of, is one thing. An idiot scratch which is completely avoidable and aptly named is completely different IMO.

Well, I mean, you don't *have* to. I'm just kind of a perfectionist. Yeah, it helps prevent rust (though the oil on the gun should do that anyway) but mostly blends in the modification if you have a blued slide stop.

Laws against murder and attempted murder should have been the only gun control laws ever needed in America...

doesnt the idiot scratch come from being an idiot and not breakingdown or putting back together your 1911?
