    Thinking about a second 1911

I'm curious to hear from people who have bought a second (or more than 1) 1911, and I know there's a few of you on here.

I currently have a Kimber Custom II that I'm very happy with, and it will reliably drive tacks if I do my part.

What I'm currently looking at is the basic blued Colt O1991 Government. Part of me feels like it's going backwards from a feature perspective, but I love the basic look of the WW1 style gun. I think it's more of an emotional want for the Colt than a functional improvement over what I have. I love historical guns in general, and a real (modern released Series 80) Colt Government fits into that classic look without the collector prices. It feels great in hand and felt like great quality. I still have to give my Kimber the edge on the crispness of the trigger. Still it would be cool to own a Colt, and I sure as hell can't afford a SAA

I buy guns to shoot them though, and my concern is that I'll spend the price on the Colt to find I like shooting my Kimber more. Has anyone bought a mil-spec gun after owning essentially a loaded 1911, and still shot both equally?

If you get it, the romance of the GI will be broken by its feature set... Even if you don't get hammer bite. And I wouldn't get an 80 series unless there was no such thing as a 70 series. Shooter to shooter? It would be a mistake.

You gave all the reasons why you prefer to get the Colt....... then get the Colt 1991.

Just be aware, they usually have a looser tolerance than most mainstream 1911s .A lot of people find that off-putting while others don't care as long as they have the pony logo.

Have you thought about getting a 9? A lot of fun and a good addition to your 1911 collection.

I shoot all of my 1911s except for one. My first 1911 was a full rail TRP which I've sold and have bought a new one. That one will be BNIB for awhile. Enjoy all of the guns you Oren.

I have owned basic Colt 1911s in the past. While a great part of history, the lack of a beaver tail grip safety and basic small sights take some of the shooting fun out of it. While it is cool to own and look at, you will enjoy shooting your modernized 1911 much more.
I own eight 1911s none are mil-spec, while I appreciate them and cut my teeth on them. I enjoy shooting a bells and whistles 1911 much more.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

                        Agreed
                        I have 18 and none are mil-spec
On Mil-spec models the sights are lousy (Too small for my eyes)
The safeties are small and rougher. The trigger needs work too
I either mod my 1911's or buy them with the feature set I like.

Springfield GI/Mil-Spec may save you a few hundred over the Colt.

I only have one GI that I barely shoot, yea the sight are, well GI.

I agree on the 9mm though, I enjoy my 1911-9mm more than my 45's, and more so with my 1911-22lr, but it's not as fun as the 9mm.

Just get what you want, you will some day anyways.

Buy the Colt, you will be surprised on the quality that Colt has been putting out. The only gripe I also have is the sights, other than that the Colt is really high quality buy it you won't regret it.

I'm on my 3rd 1911 and I just put a deposit on a SA Loaded in 9mm, I say it should be my last but we all know how that plan goes.
