    357 SIG - experiences?

I have a glock 19/23/32 (compact) frame and I'm considering buying a 357 sig upper. I originally planned to build a mech tech, featureless carbine but prefer shooting handguns and love glocks.

I'm looking for some pros/cons of 357 sig. It would be a range and ccw gun.

    Thanks

I can tell you that the ammo can be pricey and not readily available.

I can tell you that ammo is available and not that much more than 9mm -

G33 on my CCW - Its like 9mm on steroids.

Im on the hunt for a G32C....

If you are regularly in the position of needing to shoot through hard barriers, then the high cost, scarce availability, and greater difficulty in reloading might be worth it.

It is pushy and snappy at the same time, meaning it is not the best round for quick shooting. For self defense, it really offers no more than 9mm or .45 for situations most average joes will face.

All that said, I like mine.

I recently got the 357 sig barrel for my M&P .40 and I actually like it alot, its got a different recoil more like a push kind of like .45

its not that big of a pain to reload and you can get a .40 barrel too..

If you have a Glock .40, it is an easy add-on to get a .357 Sig barrel and shoot away. Many people would consider a conversion barrel hobby-grade or a range toy as far as self defense worthy, but since .357 Sig is a bottle-necked cartridge it is trusted more as reliable - at least in my experience. I have a Lone Wolf .357 Sig barrel in one of my Glock 22's. I may pickup a gen3 or gen4 Glock 31 upper also. I do like the caliber.

Price - more expensive than 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP per 50 rds of FMJ ammo. HP is the same story

The shooter will feel its "juice" when shooting it. Recoils much more than 9mm +P and .40 S&W. It is also loud.

Is it fun to shoot? Heck yeah! Is spending almost $200 for the conversion set up (or more for the complete slide and mag) worth it? I think so.

              Good luck!

Waste. No traction. There's a reason it's not very common

i put a 357sig barrel in my glock 23, run 2 mags and had a lot of fail to feed, tap/rack always fixed it, but it was still a problem, i havent polished the ramp or changed the followers yet or anything, but was using 357 magazines.

It's a blast to shoot, esp at night out of a short barrel.

That being said, I have one and it's not something I shoot all the time. I picked up about 1500 rds when ammo was cheaper in 2004 and prob have maybe 800 rds left 10 years later.

Sounds like it will be an additional gun, so no big deal, get it, it's fun

i do like having the alternate caliber option, also having a 19 upper, makes it even better. just need to iron out the ftf issue

Love my P226 in .357-SIG, it's a hoot to shoot, and the grin factor is hard to beat with any 9 mm, 40 or 45 pistol.

If you like 9 MM but want it faster, then shoot 9 MM +P or get a 357 Sig.
If you like 9 MM +P but want it faster, then get a 357 Sig.
If you like 9 MM +P+ and feel comfortable that your pistol can handle a steady diet of them, then shoot that. You get a higher capacity with 9 MM than with the 40 Caliber diameter case of the 357 Sig.

I have several pistols in 357 Sig and prefer them over 40 Caliber in a metal framed pistol. As the frame gets lighter and the pistol bore gets higher the 357 Sig becomes less pleasant to shoot.

I had a conversion barrel for my Walther P99 (40 Cal) so I could shoot the 357 Sig. But the 1350 fps 124 grain bullet loads caused the gun to be too snappy. So, I stopped using the barrel and sold it. These same loads shoot just fine in my Sig P series guns and I do not really mind the recoil. I also do not worry about wearing out the slides or frames on the Sigs.
Glocks have a lower barrel axis than a Walther P99 so your mileage may very.

I bought a .40 Glock on the cheap just to convert it to .357 Sig.

It's a real fun caliber to shoot, it has a snappy yet firm kick. It makes me feel like the firing pin is a hammer, and the bullets are the nails, if that makes sense.

My HD pistol is a Glock 35 converted to 357 SIG. It has been 100% reliable over 2000+ rounds and feeds smoother than any other handgun I own due to the bottlenecked cartridges. Out of the 5.3" barrel, my handloads do about 1600fps with a 125gr bullet. Recoil is stout, but not too much worse than a 45acp.

I also have a Glock 33 and it is LOUD.
