    Range Report: SIG P938

Took the new P938 Nightmare to the range Sat.

-50/box Federal AE 147 gr. FP
-Two mags ea. 147 gr. HST and 147 gr. XTP.

    Flawless... almost.

The pistol shot Great. Very easy to operate. Natural aim point. Low recoil/flip w/ a Two-finger/one handed grip. Cycled everything.

    Accurate? 1-1/2" groups at 5 yards, 3" at 10 yards, and ~ 8" at 25 yards... One-handed.

Expect to get that down to 1"/2"/5" respectively after I get used to the trigger.

The Trigger? Heavy, maybe 6-8 lbs., w/ almost no discernible creep, and an icicle break.

Grips? Great. The checkered G-10 was very positive w/o the excess of my range buddy's Extreme "snake scale" G-10's. Exactly what I wanted.

Didn't see the brass, which is good, b/c it was not in my face. I would guess high 4 o'clock.

And, something that I also Really like? You can hand-load the chamber... easy. Just drop in a round, ride the slide down, and then press on the back end of the extractor lever, like a teeter-tooter... hops right over the base into battery.

So what is the "... almost"?

I had one round on one of the HST mags go... missing. Best I can recollect, I loaded the full mag from an open slide, and overhand charged it. Fired Five rounds to a locked back slide and empty mag.

Though that I had loaded the mag w/ a full Six.

Range buddy found an HST round on the floor back behind me, w/ a ding in it up near the case mouth. A rare round to just find on the floor, so I assume that is the mystery round. I have no idea how it got there.

I hand-loaded it and sent it on its way.

So, ...this is one awesome little rig that really does some nice work w/ the 147 gr. ammo.

Will investigate the mystery round the next trip out.

maybe he meant feet and not yards?

I'm a horrible shot, 8" group at 75 feet with this small gun sound great
I now have a P938 BRG, have not shot it yet.

      hickok45 shot a great distance at 6min 30 seconds

But maybe we have found the sucessor for Brian Zins with Bad Caselaw, or maybe not.
        Hey, Archimedes...

How close is ~ 8" to an 8 x 11.5" piece of paper...?

This was the first trip out of the box w/ this piece.

After I put 500 rounds through it, and shrink the groups to 5"...? You can pay me a $1,000.00.

I had the missing round happen to me on my first range trip with the 6 rnd mag only. I figured since the spring tension was so high maybe it was a double eject. When I receive my 7 rnd mag (5 days before I received the pistol) I loaded it up and let it sit for a few days. I wasn't able to do this with the 6 rnd since I was so exited to get out to the range.

Mine also does something kinda weird when loading up for a plus one in the mag, when I pull the mag to load the extra round the round on top falls out of the mag well. So one in the chamber, 4 or 5 in the mag and a loose round out of the mag well. Try it

Never heard of a double-eject, but that is exactly what it seemed like.

Five rounds fired, Six rounds gone.

All the mags (4) are new Six-rounders. I'll exercise'em a little and then leave'em loaded. See if it happens again.

Don't know about the loose round on charging... I only loaded from an open slide (range dedicate). Will check for that as well.

                Thanks.

Not sure if it is just the a-zoom snap caps, but when you load the mag chamber a round and drop the mag out come a loose round. It doesn't affect cycling at all though.

I'd be lucky to get an 8" group with that gun at 10 yards.

I had rounds just fly out of the magazine on my HK expert when I loaded some SWC's per my reloading manual. Basically I would fire, a round would fly out of the magazine and the next round would get loaded in. Never seen anything like that before. Once I moved seating depth out a bit (significantly) farther the issue went away. Seems odd for that to happen with HST. Or maybe you racked the slide twice or something? When my HK (double-ejected? is that the right term?) the rounds were basically just launching out of the magazine, so one round would land on the floor and the next round would get chambered.

I would certainly be concerned if that the ammo your going to be using for carry, more testing is in order!

Does this have some sort of pistol claw extractor that requires feeding the chamber only via the magazine? Are you saying you fill the mag, chamber a round from it, then drop the mag and replace the one you chambered to get to 6+1? Do you have to do it that way? Or can you drop a round in the chamber, close the slide and then insert the full magazine?

I was able to get pretty consistent 4" groups at ten yards with a range rental so it wound up being my first/last SSE. I'll have to keep an eye out for that missing round thing. For a small pistol, it feels great and is pretty accurate
