SSE is really the way to go and it really boils down to variety and selection. A classic example of this case was when I was shopping for another 9mm last year when I eliminated the M&P series from my gun list because of the magazine disconnect. Sure I could had looked for an off the roster version that would accommodate my gun requirements via SSE, but at the time, I couldn't find a single M&P that met my needs in town. So as a result, my selection just gotten shorter. It's like wanting a new white iPhone 6, but all the store offers is black or silver; so take it or leave it.

But luckily for me, fortunate graced me with a LEO version of the M&P Shield (one without a magazine disconnect and the distracting external safety) last month and I snagged it right away. Sure it ran me $429 (yes I got a slight discount) when it was all said and done, but it was a great investment. Anyway, like everyone is trying to explain to you, SSE is really the better way to go in terms of selection and customization.

There is a sense of pleasure I get from giving the middle finger to the state of California.

I am an extremely picky handgun shooter. A lot of the stuff on the Roster I do not like. Now, because of the change in laws, I can get guns on the Roster anytime. Guns off roster, I can't get in the forseeable future after 12/31. I had the same opinion as you but now I am feeling the panic. The only guns I like that are on the Roster, really are 1911s. And there are some great 1911s off roster. Not just that a lot of the new Glocks, XDs, Walthers, and H&Ks are, in my opinion, big upgrades over the older stuff.

That being said, im not referring to that obvious fact-simply why it is someone would spend 25% more over retail to get a specific gun not on the list when one can get a functionally similar option. Especially given that an off-roster pistol might be nearly impossible to replace if its taken by police after a self-defense use or Restraining Order, or needs to be serviced by the factory after January 2015.

Example, why toil over getting an HK45 when a USP .45 does the same job.Ditto Glock Gen 4 va Gen 3, and so on and so forth.

Im not trying to start a big flame war over the issue, just curious.
Havimg extensively shot both an hk 45 is a much better fit for me vs a usp 45

I'm getting what I want cause I can now, if you prefer to get a similar but not identical model that's "good enough" than knock yourself out and don't worry about what other people want to buy and use.

I want to also ask you this OP, why do you jump around to forums to ask odd ball questions then refuse to come back after people respond? It's kinda strange IMO.

Reading this whole thread just reminded me when Bill Ruger said "no HONEST man needs more than ten rounds in any gun"

I like Glocks and I am a lefty. Gen 4 Glocks work well for me. Due to a stroke I had a few years ago, I am unable to operate a mag release on the left side. I had to give my gen 3 Glocks to my son. Without SSE, there would be very few handguns I could safely operate.
Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.

A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.

Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

SSE will be Ex Post Facto overruled in that any gun that was modified to hold more than one round will be a felony.

Just having ever have done a SSE will be enough for a search warrant.

It will be an nice way to jump start all gun confiscation, since so many people are still confused about it, and as a relative gun newbie I couldn't believe the our anti-gun CA govt is still allowing the loop-hole.

Reversing SSE with harsh penalties will have a huge sections of the population panicking to distance themselves from Gun Nuts.

Today, if someone is a cronic pot smoker you might suspect he dabbles in other illegal drugs, all of which are felonies(or used to be) and just being in same room with him and his stuff can get you a nice felony, which ends any hopes of becoming a banker, stockbroker, doctor, nurse, cop, security, military etc. It will be like that, except that unlike drugs guns are for hurting OTHER people, and thus a whole other kind of 'bad', so none of the "live and let live" types will support guns.

To summarize, IT IS A TRAP.

Similarly, the whole Medical MJ thingy doesn't make in legal under Fed law, and it remains a Fed FELONY regardless of Prop 47 which is only for State Law, and we all know how "Statists" feel about "State's Rights" VS Central Govt. Unless you actually "grow you own"(about 5% of Card Holders) is isn't just a felony, it is CONSPIRACY TO DISTRIBUTE NARCOTICS with lots of nice neat paper trails (I personally know at least two chicks who put it on their daddy issued CCards). Further, all the Pot Club operators are scumbags and it is a sure thing they will stampede to offer the Feds any and all info on their customers when threatened by Feds, including hidden video/audio etc of the customers speaking plainly and CONSPIRING TO DISTRIBUTE NARCOTICS (wet dream for any Fed prosecutor) Its a no brainier that those now operating "Clubs" are front men for Old School organized crime, which is why you don't see legit known 'hippies' getting into it.
Am I a good shot!?!, YEAH I'M A GOOD SHOT!....i just got bad aim
