Ivory grips- worth it?

I have a Ruger Blackhawk engraved by Weldon Bledsoe. The gun is unfired but the grips are kind of beat. I was thinking of getting some ivory replacements. This gun is a pure safe queen....for now.

What are the downsides of ivory grips??

I have some on my Les Baer SRP in hard chrome and its just a show stopper!

As long as the ivory is pre-ban, you should be fine. There is going to be a day that ivory will be outright banned for sale, so you might think about getting them sooner rather than later.

I like the look especially on a nicely engraved revolver as yours, but usually the prices just start at $300 to $500 and just go up from there.

you can get a pair of "bonded ivory" grips in a different styles (for lots of different model pistols) ,with or without the gun companies logo and even a "antiqued" finish for only $45 to 65 dollars.

so if I were you I might buy one of those see if you like it. then decide to throw down the bigger money for ivory if you want it.
you could always sell the bonded ivory ones later at the price you paid.

take a look at this one company's offerings and you can see that they are very nice looking, even if they're not the real deal.

I don't think anyone is going to get rich off the sale of some grips, well not now anyways..in 100 years? maybe it will be auctioned for a million as a super rare collectors item. :-)

I have a set on one of my Wilson Combat 1911's. It's blued by Doug Turnbull and looks fantastic. One of the last custom order guns Wilson took (December 2013) before discontinuing the Turnbull blue option.

Agreed. The ivory above is beautiful, but I'd prefer an American material on a gun like that.
Also, I'm just sentimental about the plight of elephants (call me squishy, I don't care) regardless of when the ivory was harvested.
