    Desert Eagle?

Are they worth getting? I can't think of any SSE guns I would prefer at the moment so I'm thinking maybe go Deagle?

    Thoughts?

Not really. To begin with, I believe there are at least a few on the list. Second, they are ALWAYS for sale on this board and many others since most people buy them only to realize they don't like/can't afford to shoot it.

Certainly other guns (even big magnums) off list that are a better bet as the year comes to a close.

Can you recommend one? I'm trying to make a smart decision on something as range cool as a Deagle...

You can buy a .44mag DEP in either black or brushed chrome without doing an SSE.

          Why buy a Deagle that's not a .50?

I bought the DE in 44 (the only one on the roster) and then added the 50AE barrel. It's a ton of fun but I like the 4 inch S&W 500 better.

Because you will have to SSE or PPT it. Buy the 44 and then buy the 50AE barrel. Enjoy both.

I agree with VintageDUG. Get the 44 and extra barrel. Less paperwork and you can hoard your .50AE ammo for special events.

The .50AE is a great gun. Not for everyone but wow.....what a hoot.

People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

I love my desert eagle. I bought the 44 and added the 50ae. I bought mine cause I got a good deal at my lgs. It's expensive to shoot but not as expensive as my 4 inch. 500.

I also love my DE. I'm a 44 magnum enthusiast and have many revolvers and carbines. I stepped up to the DE when I could no longer accept the fact I didn't have a semiauto 44 mag pistol. For a 44 mag pistol, you can shoot it all day (provided you can feed it).

Part of the beauty of the DE system is the interchangeability between .357, .44, & .50. If you invest, you can grow your setup to whatever scale you like. But only the 44DECA (2 models) are on the roster and they are only .44 mag.

I had one in 357 back in the days. Didn't know much about them but it was sure fun to shoot. I planned on getting a 44 mag barrel for it, but I got into revolvers. I had no idea that the DEagle did not like a constant diet of exposed lead base bullets so I ran into headaches with jams after jams. Sold it and never thought about it again until almost 2 decades later. I got a MK-VII in 44 mag and it was a blast to shoot. Then a nice trade came up, but I've always missed the semiauto power. So I bought one from a fellow CGN member and I'm very happy with it. One thing is sure that everyone wants to shoot it. Lots of people will say it's not a practical gun, but give them the chance to shoot it and you'll see their eyes light up.

Never shot the .44 Mag, but the .50 AE is incredible fun that doesn't get old even shooting it on a regular basis. The Desert Eagle is a gas operated pistol, which is pretty rare and interesting. I'd say if you understand how it works a bit and are into the engineering, it's going to be a great gun to own. If you're just buying it because it's cool, it may get old.

Just like the Coonan .357, the Desert Eagle is not for people who are looking for their first pistol. This isn't it. Definitely for experienced shooters.

Worth getting as a novelty but as suggested above there is no need to SSE one.
