Got a 19 as my first new handgun and I love it. It's my hd weapon and if I ever get a ccw it will be the gun. I love shooting it but when I take out friends to the range they all gravitate to the 1911.

Face it, a stainless 1911 looks a lot cooler than your basic black Glock. There's no way around that.

But with its basic reliability, durability and simplicity, G19 is fantastic. For example... I bet you don't know this... Last week, I bought a 3.5 lb trigger connector. To install it, you have to break down the whole Glock lower. You push out all three pins and remove the trigger assembly, and disassemble it. It only requires a punch called a Glock Tool. Easy enough so far. But when it came to removing the trigger connector, it's a 1/4" wide piece of metal embedded into a plastic housing. I thought I'd need to pry it out with needle nose pliers. The I saw that it goes straight through the plastic, so I could press it out from behind with a screwdriver. But then I looked closer... sure enough, Glock's engineers put a hole in the center of the slot, so you can press the connector out from behind, using the Glock Tool. I still marvel at how cool that is, you can strip apart the tiniest assembly of a Glock with this simple little tool. Virtually every little thing comes apart with that tool, except the sights. But of course you never need to remove the sights for cleaning/maintenance.

Some might even say glocks are the best man cannon in the biz.

I was shocked at how accurate my glock 19 gen 4 was the first time I shot it. I finally got the chance to shoot my 23 gen 4 and it is equally as accurate. I say go glock 19 gen 4 and don't look back. If it fits your hand well enough, I see no reason to go for a glock 17. I prefer the smaller, lighter package. I don't see how accuracy could be improved with a 17 because this thing dead on.

Reason why: You will get crappy CA neutered 10rd magazines+followers that will fail to feed various hollow points on the last round. Also buying a new G19, you are taking a 50/50 chance of getting one with erratic ejections/brass to the face issues. My G19 had this issue and it was a nightmare.

I am surprised no one has mentioned these known issues...
Possibly because people like myself have owned and shot Gen 3 G19's for years, have thousand of rounds through them and have found no significant issues. Are you a left handed shooter?

The only people who say "Man Cannon" are:

                    1. You

                    2. People making fun of you

I don't believe you can go wrong with a Glock, but I do believe that you MAY be able to do better. Guns are a bit like shoes in that the ergonomics that work for me may not work for you. Do some research, rent multiple guns and choose the one you like best.

The G19 is a great gun. While parts are inexpensive and easy to find, most Glock owners I know who shoot regularly have done some extensive mods to their pistols. As much as I love tinkering with my guns, I'd rather buy a pistol that requires fewer mods.

S&W, Springfield, Walther, H&K and others make striker-fired polymer handguns that are well worth looking at. They're newer designs and all (IMHO) have paid more attention to ergonomics, and several have considerably better triggers. Personally, I'll take a Walther PPQ over a G19. If we're just talking about 4" barrels, I'll take a CZ P-01 (alloy, hammer) over the G19 as well, but that's what works for me.
