Nice! I like your style. I'd like to buy my g/f a .357 or a 12 gauge but she wants a purse.

I keep two G19's, they are execellent for ccw and general shooting.

After mastering the G19 then consider specializing up or down but hang on to that 19. It's the most versatile pistol out there.

I'd also say that the g19 is a great choice. Just picked one up today and it feels perfect (weight, grip, size.) Plus it shoots cheap ammo!
I don't drink or Smoke. I spend my money on gunpowder and gasoline.

Yea I got lucky with this one.

She just bought her first 20g Wednesday actually, and is in the process of building an AR. She's trying to sneak all my guns cause every time we go shooting she holds it and says this one is mine now.

I just hope if she ever becomes an ex she won't use them on me lol

Glock 19 is the #1 selling pistol (units sold) in the USA. That must be for a reason.

Thet said, there are many quality striker fired (similar) pistols nowadays and ergonomics are important - something else may fit your hand better.

You have to try them to find out, lots of ranges rent a variety of guns.

M&P line, HK VP9, walther PPQ, springfield XD, etc are all very comparable.

as a new shooter/owner, the Glock style semi-autos are a lot easier for me to disassemble/reassemble when cleaning than are the 1911 style semi-autos...i have 2 Glock style semi-autos: a Glock 19 and an XD9---the XD9 is a tiny bit easier for me to clean because the slide release is easier to operate...i have 2 1911 style semi-autos...a Colt Mark II .380 and a Ruger P85 9mm...geting them disassembled is more complicated....for all my semi-autos i need to have a youtube video playing to lead me through the disassemble/reassemble process

i find revolvers easiest of all for cleaning, no videos required

also, the ammunition for a Glock 19 (9mm) is relatively cheap

Your wife must be pi$$ed that you have a girlfriend.

Come on SCI get your story straight. Do you have a wife or girlriend? I'm guessing neither.

I have no Glocks. I have M&Ps, Walthers, Rugers and Sigs. Unless you have other specific requirements or preferences you couldn't go wrong with a G19.

Some more guns to look at are CZ P-07 or Sphinx SDP compact.

I thank all of you for your input, i will look in to all the recommended guns. But it seems by all of your inputs i couldn't go wrong with the Glock 19.

Recommend the S&W M&P Shield in 9mm- safer and better

Glocks are outdated because one has to pull the trigger in order to field strip, and I believe a new shooter is more likely to inadvertently pull the trigger while holstering and unholstering as well.

My opinion for a new shooter would be to get a S&W M&P Shield in 9mm. It's great fun to shoot and is accurate with little felt recoil. It can even be marginally pocketable (but a bit heavy for pocket), has a magazine disconnect and thumb safety (which one can choose to use or not), is cheaper, smaller, and a lot 'prettier' than a Glock 19. And you don't need to pull the trigger to remove the slide. Trigger pull is better than the Glock and sweet at 6.5#, mine is now 5.75- 6# with two range trips and treated with FrogLube. Glock does not have a Lifetime Warranty but the Shield does have such warranty.

In over 25 years of shooting, the Shield may be my favorite 9mm of all!

In any event, best to first shoot both and then decide.
