    Why BHP?

    Wanted to get people's thoughts.

If you own a CZ/CZ clone in 9mm AND also own a 1911 in 9mm, AND have the means, will you still get a BHP? If yes, why? If no, why not?

    Healthy debate only please.

    Thanks in advance.

    Browning design, steel, SAO.

Trigger is mushy as heck though. And the mag safety is lame, though you can take it out easily.

Hated the way I shot it, so I sold it. Plenty to be said for the BHP, starting with the fact that it was a JMB design ('nuff said), and there can be no doubts about the worldwide success of the gun. But just not right for me.

So I just did the paperwork this morning for a Commander sized 1911 in 9mm instead

Doesn't feel good in my hand so, I won't get one for a shooter.

I would likely only get one for the history. It is a cool pistol.

That being said it is not high on my list.

They should be called BMP's(Browning Medium Power) in this state. The only reason why anyone should get that gun over a 1911 is that it has a traditional high cap mag.

I might get an old one shoulder stock slot in the back of the pistol grip because if I'm not mistaken some of those early shoulder stock pistols are somehow exempt from laws against putting a stock on a pistol but maybe that's just a federal thing and doesn't apply here in California. it may also apply just to come early Mauser style stock (that is also a holster) guns but I thought I remember reading something like that here.

taking that to the range would be a blast and getting people's reaction would also be pretty fun.

but yes like the others have said without the high capacity magazines, that really made them special way back when.

..collecting one here in California it would be more about the cool history and possibly the high quality build of some of them.

oh and didn't some early models have those old school style rear ladder sites?
that might be fun sighting in a pistol at whatever the maximum is (500+ meters or so?)

but for that to be effective I think you're going to need one of those shoulder stocked models.

Everybody should have at least one Hi Power in their collection---amazing history---probably the most issued 9mm pistol of all time---wonderful feel in hand---all steel---very accurate---slim and trim---moderate weight---buy one and experience one of the very best pistol designs ever…
I have plenty of modern poly pistols---but still keep three P35s around...

I own all 3; cz, 9mm 1911, and bhp. Haven't shot my HP but I've shot others. They are ok. CZs are great but 9mm 1911 is so much fun and terribly underrated.

                          CZ 75 is far superior.

Buddy owned one. Shot it twice, wasn't impressed and went back to my SP-01. Ergonomics weren't as good, trigger wasn't as good, slide/hammer bite sucked.

Interesting... Assuming the trigger on my new BHP can be improved to be on par with these two (they've had trigger jobs)...

I'm having to downsize a bit. The BHP is safe, but I've decided that the 9mm 1911 is expendable (I have a .45 1911). I do appreciate firearms w/ some history and it scores major points there!
One of the most widely used military pistols in history, issued to the armies of over 50 countries... And let's not forget John Browning's DNA. It's grip is shorter and beefier than the other two,
but I find it very ergonomic with my large hand (e.g., my hand is too large for a G19, but fits the BHP fine) and accurate (+ accuracy should improve w/ a better trigger). For me, it's a keeper.

If it makes a difference, it is on the roster.

Thanks all for your thoughts so far. Based on the posts, I think it's the history and the designer that put the BHP up there.

@Josh3239: I have not seen a 9mm 1911 to be underrated. In fact, lots of people here on CalGuns speak highly of them
