Targetmasters screws up.

These forms are not brain surgery, if you think store is not doing them right, just check them yourself and you will not have any problems. DIY seem to be a lost art.

they sure aren't. I haven't even made that many purchases as I'm a fairly new shooter. went to do my DROS on an xds and was done fairly quick. guy helping me responded with, you've filled this out before and know what you're doing. made me wonder if that was his conversation piece or if people mess these things up frequently.

Not really a screw up for me but I called them to see if they can take a PPT. The guy that answered the phone was honest and straight forward and told me it may take 1 hour or more cause they prioritize to their paying customers. A year ago they checked my ID and had me fill out a form to buy ammo which was odd. I will go back to TM though cause that's the only indoor range that allows birdshot closest to me.

We're not talking about the DROS form. TM has 6 or 7 of their own forms they make you fill out. Plus they are slow as hell processing you. Then they go over each of their forms with you. Totally unnecessary. To prove my point to them I went in with cash to buy a CZ SP01. They gave me all the forms to fill out. I told them I don't need to, my HSC card covers all of their forms. They said then you can't buy a gun. I laid $800 on the counter and said, "This is the money you just lost because of your ridiculous, unnecessary paperwork." I then went to Reeds and was done in about 20 minutes. No extra paperwork.

Not sure I would have created a post about this listing their name.. it's not like they gave you the wrong gun or something, and it's fixable with a postage stamp.

^^^ this .... I've stopped going there for ppt's due to the extremely long ppt process there when reeds and metal dog tactical are faster and in the general area.

I've had a similar experience where they called me back to sign paperwork I missed .... Luckily I had just left and was just down the street.

Yes, true, and it is an experience I will never repeat at any price as seller or buyer.. Nor will I buy anything from them, not so much as some patches let alone a firearm.
That place will take years off your life span.

What? Reed's isn't that far away and allows bird, buck, and slugs, all without having to deal with any of the normal TM BS.

Also, the guy you spoke to on the phone was full of crap. A PPT doesn't take an hour at TM because they prioritize their "paying customers", it takes an hour or more because of their BS paperwork, and it's the same BS regardless of whether you're doing a PPT or buying something right out of the display case from their inventory. It's not that you have to wait an hour to start your PPT or purchase, it's that your PPT or purchase will take an hour once you start filling out the 4473.

If a transaction at a gun shop takes more than 10 minutes to fill out paperwork and accept payment, the shop is doing something very wrong. TM does things very wrong(and as a result takes forever).

Every time I go into Targetmasters it seems like half the lights are turned off. I don't know how they can see anything in there.

I guess I'm very lucky, I have never had a shop call me to inform me that PPW was incomplete and I needed to go back and finish it. There was a time that a LGS didn't take down my DL info, but that was taken care of at pickup.

Of course I've never done anything at TM except shoot, and that only a few times. The last time I was waiting my turn in line and the people in front of me were new shooters, while explaining the rules and administering their safe handling instructions, first the rep, then the customer, swept almost everybody in the line. I immediately left (and so did a few others), and haven't been back since. That was a couple of years ago though, things might have changed.
