I called the other day in regards to purchasing a gun through them and was advised I can't see the gun unless I pay for half the gun?? The guy said the gun stays in the warehouse until I put half down. What if the gun has scratches after I put money down and decide I don't want it cause of imperfections. Will I get charged a restocking fee?

Placer Tactical is a one man show, Rick. I'm a member of the handgun of the month club there. So far I have three sse guns from him and another in jail. He doesn't have a huge inventory so if it's not in stock he'll order it from one of his distributors. He can check their inventory to see if they have what you are looking for in their warehouse.
Rick is a great guy and honest. I wouldn't worry about putting a deposit down. He inspects them when they come in and wouldn't sell you a blemished gun. If you got there and noticed a scratch, I'm sure he would sent it back and get another one or refund you deposit without a restocking fee. Call him and confirm.Comment

yeah, the last one i bought from him was a shield 9mm. he took it out of his safe because i told him i would be in that afternoon to buy it.
typically he doesnt pull product from his shelves to save for a customer but i am a repeat client so i guess he made an exception.Comment

I've bought many guns from Rick, he's a great guy. He's just a small, one man shop so he doesn't keep a lot in inventory. I'm sure if you are having him special order a gun, he wants reasonable assurances that you are actually going to buy it when it comes in and not stick him with some inventory he now has to scramble to sell before SSE ends in December.
When I have him order something, I pay him in full even though it will probably be weeks before I can see it and DROS it. He's a stand up guy, you have nothing to worry about.Last edited by dpop24; 08-19-2014, 11:50 AM.Comment

Sounds odd, but if you all say he is ok.

i was thinking about it and the reason he may have asked for the deposit is his lack of up front funds.
if he has to buy the firearm up front just to get it in stock for you to check out, that might be his position. especially if it is a firearm he may not end up selling easily if you pass.Comment

I go to Rick for EVERYTHING and we talk A LOT. Essentially, he doesn't have infinite money to buy inventory (makes sense... he is a one man shop with a family to worry about). He can't afford to buy a pistol from his distributor, then the buyer backs out, and he is possibly stuck with a pistol that one single person requested that may not sell to someone else for a month or two when that spot could be filled with something that is a guaranteed sell in a week or two. It did seem like he had tried that before when he was starting up and that people would flake. I didn't ask for instances or if it actually happened, but it did sound like it had happened. He definitely doesn't want to be stuck with it once SSE ends.
Rick is a great guy. He knows his stuff for sure. He is actually a part time (reserve?) officer with Placer County.
If anything is not right on the handgun, he will make sure it is made right.Last edited by Whatisthis?; 08-19-2014, 3:59 PM.Comment

I'm not ordering a gun from him, as it states on his site that he has it in stock. I have no problem paying for 2-3 guns in full, just found it weird that he didn't have it on hand so I can inspect it. And when I asked about it how I would go about looking at before purchase, he just said I would need to put a down payment or it would stay at his warehouse.Comment
