Yet Another Which Gun Should I Get Thread

OK guys so with the whole SSE thing going away, and with Springfield's little 3 extra magazines promotion going on, I thought I'd go ahead and get handgun.
I used to have a pretty extensive gun collection until a certain situation forced me to sell all of them. I'm slowly building a collection back up but my handgun collection only consists of a Sig P226 TacOps in .40 and Springfield 1911 Loaded Target Black/Stainless now.
I'm not new to the whole SSE thing as I've done the process with a few guns in the past (XDm 45, XDm 9,Springer TRP, Sig P226 SAO, P226 EE, P220 ED and a couple others, all of which are now gone
So I was looking at either picking up a XDm5.25 in 9 or the Springfield Range Officer in 9, both of which are available at my LGSs.
I don't really NEED another gun but figured why not. I might use it for IDPA or USPSA or 3 Gun.
One thing I thought about was the whole extra magazine promotion, and with the XDm9 there aren't any factory 10rds. But then I could always just get them sent to my place in Nevada.
I'm only thinking of Springfield because of their little promotion going on but I'm really just trying to use the SSE before it goes away (like everyone else of course.)
That being said, I'm not dead set on Springer.
    What are your guy's thought?
    XDm 5.25 in 9?
    Springer Range Officer in 9?
Maybe something else before it's gone?
I don't plan on getting any Glocks. I'm not saying they're bad, I just owned a few before and don't prefer them.
Your opinions are appreciated. I've shot many guns and other than Glocks, I like pretty much everything. So the whole, "shoot something and buy what you like best" doesn't really apply at the moment.
    Thanks Again in Advance.

If it were me, I'd go with the RO 9mm. I've got the Loaded .45 and love it and would really like to get my hands on the 9mm version. Don't really dig the target sights on the RO but I'm sure that I could get used to them if they couldn't be swapped out.
    **** your feelings!

I got the RO in 9 last week. Its a very very smooth shooting gun. Nearly like a 22 pistol. I still have to get used to the sights, the all black kind of messes with my eyes. Might swap them out for a fixed 2 dot set later on if I can't get used to them. People that have shot mine can consistently group about 4 inches @ 25 yards. It is by the most accurate gun I own.
      Have a good day!

I'm not a huge 9mm 1911 fan, and not a big XD fella either. I'd say some nice flavor of CZ if you really want a 9mm.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

I wouldn't mind picking up the RO in 9mm.

That's one of the off putting things about the RO. I like how the XDm comes with the front FO sight. Blacks rear Sights don't bother me as long as there's a FO front sight to help contrast.

well once you change the crappy sights, its going to be a fantastic gun. Also to remove the front site, you have punch out a pin. For some odd reason the front sight is pinned..

That's interesting information. I don't think I've ever seen that on a handgun. If I do get the RO I'll probably sent it back to SA to get the front sight changed then. Maybe even get it refinished in something cleaner than Park haha... although that might be a waste of money.

I wasn't either until I shot one. Then it was must have. Love my RIA 9mm.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

I vote the RO in 9mm.

I have a stainless Springfield Loaded 9mm 1911 and love it. I'm tempted to pick up the RO as well, but I need to diversify. If it wasn't for the end of SSE next year I'd get one, but I don't have enough SSE slots left this year.

Haha I wish I had the money to SSE a gun every 30 days. My wife is due to pop out another daughter mid September so this will probably be my last SSE ever. Haha.
One crazy thing I noticed was that out of CA, you can get a new XDM 5.25 for $500-$600. I could tempt my dad in Vegas to buy one (he hates all polymer guns, and tolerates the aluminum Sig P series) that way he can give it to me later when he decides he still hates polymer guns haha.

i kinda dig the park finish. I don't plan on carrying it, so i dropped my ideas of getting it cerakoted. I'm going to do the same with my sights.. Harrison custom makes a combat replacement. They are really nice.

"(Please state your non-Glock suggestion in thread. Thanks)" That them there is fightin' words! LOL!

Seriously though, once you strike the Glock off the list and remove them from the equation there are a lot of exciting guns to choose from. None that I personally like more than a Glock, but a ton that have peeked my curiosity.

The 1911 is always a nice choice. If this is your first 1911 you might consider the 45acp. They are easier to find in 45acp, and unlike with a polymer gun a steel frame 1911 absorbs a lot of the felt recoil making it very managable. If you were ever going to consider the 45acp round, the 1911 is your chance to do it painlessly. The gun will be heavy though. So if you plan to carry it at any point you might consider the lighter aluminum frame models. You will pay more for them and you will feel the recoil more, but they won't pants you in public while carrying. That said, if the 9mm floats your boat go for it. I certainly would not mind owning it. It is a nice gun. I'm just saying, you don't necessarily need to fear a 45acp if that's an issue for you. As far as they go, the 1911 is a pretty painless way to be introduced to the round.

I had a chance to checkout the FN FNS 9MM at shot show. It is a pretty impressive addition to the striker fired "glock killer" offerings on the market today. It's got a nice size to it, good looking, nice trigger pull, nice reset, everything you could want...if you can find one. You might need to SSE it, because its new and I am not sure if it is on the roster. I never looked because I am not in the market for one at the moment.

The M&P is the most popular so called "Glock Killer" out there. More so than the XD. Very comfortable, a little heavier trigger and longer reset than a Glock but about the same as the XD if I remember correctly. It's a sexy gun. I think I would give the nod the FNS over it though. Althought the M&P would be easier to find and no SSE.

Sig has a new striker fired gun out. The 336 I think? Could be wrong about that number. It's not the 250 (avoid that one - the DAK trigger is a nightmare on it). It has a short pull, short reset, and it is comfortable and good looking. My only complaint is that it is really chunky...even the compact version is very large compared to offerings from other companies.

Another option to consider if you are a fan of John Browning's 1911 but prefer the 9mm round is the Hi-Power. It is an older gun, but a true classic. Feels great in the hand. The trigger is not as nice as the 1911, but it is nicer than a lot of modern day guns. One of those must have additions for a collector.

Or just go with the Springfield XD if you like it. It is all about what you like. It is a good looking gun with a large following in its camp.

Smith and Wesson M&P C.O.R.E.. It sounds like you want a 9mm and the Pro/Core both come with extended slides. You can mount optics to the Core down the road if you want too.
