Well I know your not supposed to draw unless your willing to shoot. I want to say the Harvard study on gun violence did say somewhere around 2 million crimes are prevented just by the victim presenting a firearm.

The rule of the thumb - pick the biggest caliber you can shoot accurately.
.40 has harder recoil, but it also means the bullet carries more energy. 9mm is NATO standard, however it's not a preferred round for the vast majority of LEA.

This was in a relatively safe area.. By my apt it's really safe but the gym closes at 11... I went to a gym further away that's 24hours...

Still kinda suprised they handed my iPhone and wallet back but kept the cash...
Seems they are smarter than your average criminal. If they taken you iPhone, it can easily be tracked to whatever location they traveled and where they kept the phone. Stealing iPhones is probably the dumbest thing to do.

Well, it cost you $70, but didn't cost you any more, like hours at a police station etc, etc. Best case scenario, they see the gun and leave, second best, they take the money and leave you alone. Worst case is someone gets shot.

Weird, my friend and I were just discussing this. iPhones never get stolen nowadays. You'll find an empty purse and an iPhone in the bushes.

Glad you are ok & it wasn't large $$.

for me - I got a few different 9mm's - I've got little interest in adding a different caliber in the mix. (yet)

I'm not expert - but if there are TWO of them, both on 'roids, I'm not sure there would have been much of an effective difference in the 9 vs. the 40. If they are hopped up and going to keep coming at you after being hit with a well placed shot - I don't think the incremental difference between the two would be night and day difference. It's not like the 9mm would be ineffective and the 40 would kill/incapacitate them *instantly*. But what do I know.

I got the 9mm Shield and it's a sweet gun. But I wouldn't want to shoot .40s&w out of a gun that small.

The worst case if you can't protect yourself and get murdered. It's absolutely worst.

Reportedly, the recoil is not much different for this gun

Generally, the caliber doesn't matter in two cases.
                          - You made a super accurate shot
                          - You missed.

In any other type of scenario, the bigger and more powerful caliber can help a lot.

Or even worse would be if your wife, kids, parents..etc get killed, raped, kidnapped or murdered and you couldn't do anything about it..

Sounds like you were probably wearing light clothing coming from the gym, thus was discouraged to carry. I would suggest the Ruger LCP, it's so small and light that there is no excuse not to carry.

Kidnapped? You definitely can't do anything about it while carrying!
