    M&P shield .40 vs 9mm

I just got robbed last night in the gym parking lot... I have a ccw but wasn't carrying last night (i know dumb)... It was by two AA guys that claimed to be undercover cops.. They obviously weren't but they were huge and look pissed and like they were just looking for a reason to punch me...i only had $70 in my wallet so i didn't fight it.. They took the money left my wallet and iPhone strangely enough...I usually carry a sig 938... I was going to get a shield 9mm but got me thinking if it really came down to it at closer ranges what would you prefer 9mm or .40? More specifically in the MP shield...I know there are tons of .40 vs 9mm threads but i m wondering about the shield in particular..

Sorry to hear. Curious if they threatened you with a weapon or not? Regardless the disparity of force 2>1 was present...

Caliber doesn't matter if you're not willing to carry EVERY day.

      but I still voted 9mm

No weapon was presented to me... they claimed to be undercover cops and asked me for my ID.. they looked really threatening (not like cops at all, black males tatted up, probably roided up also and really "ghetto" looking) and I really just wasnt in the right mindset at the time to fight back (plus its not worth the $70 in my wallet). I pulled out my wallet to give them my ID and they grabbed my wallet took the cash out, searched the rest of the wallet and searched me for "weapons" and returned my wallet and cell phone, keeping the cash and walked away.. I would have been pissed if I had more money but I was like this time they can keep the $70, luckily I wasnt wearing a watch or my wedding ring to the gym.

I think they realized that a lot of people dont ccw in the gym when they re running and working out. I dont usually go to the gym so late but I havent been able to sleep the last few nights so I thought a good work out would put me to sleep..

Love my Shield 9mm. Can't speak about the 40 cal, but have no doubt my 9mm loaded with Hornady Critical Defense would do the job.

Sorry to hear about this. I'm glad you're ok. We just bought his and hers Shields in 9mm. We felt that under a stressful situation the 9 would be easier to control and get rounds on target.

Glock 26 was my "other" vote. But if you are going to get the Shield the 9mm will probably be more enjoyable to shoot. It is a small frame gun. Harder to hang onto and quicker fatigue than a full size gun by its very nature. So the smaller round will make it easier to shoot for longer. Which means you will shoot it more often and get in lots of quality trigger time and become really proficient with it...at least in theory. The 40S&W is more than controllable. Just not as enjoyable in such a small package.

I picked up the shield 9mm about a month ago and really enjoy shooting it. If i had a CCW, it would by my EDC.

Only difference between the 9 and .40 is already obvious. .40 Is a bigger round, more recoil, 1 less round, ammo costs more. 9mm, smaller round, less recoil, 1 extra round, less expensive ammo.

I liked the .40 for the bigger round and 9mm for extra round, less recoil, cheaper ammo. 9mm 3-1 for the win, bought it and stopped thinking about it.

Impersonating a police officer, robbery - did you file a report? If it was just robbery you may be put on the back burner, but cops have a particular peeve about impersonators that just may get you some attention. I'd imagine they'd review all the video they could find etc to try and ID these perps. And no one who isn't in uniform is a cop, until they produce ID in my book. I don't hand over my wallet to non uniformed until I see valid ID.

                      PS - 9mm

                          I voted 40.

Op if you were carrying do you think you would have drawn and fired on them? Just curious.

The 40 is more snappy than the 9mm but not by that much. At the distance the two assailants were at you probably wouldn't have too much issue with putting the shots from the 40 where you want them. Maybe past 10yds you might see a difference but within that I felt the difference was minimal. I feel fine with 9mm as there are a number of high performing SD rounds so I don't see the need for 40.

Dang, sorry bro, I'm table topping in my head what to do. I actually do carry a lot of cash, then again I'm usually back at home well before sundown...

+1 on filing a police report. There must be cameras or something.
