That is why I suggested the P226. A lot of Sig USA's reputation on quality has to do with their first run guns, whether it's a pistol or rifle. They just have a tendency to push new products out slightly ahead of full regimen of proper testing. Early US produced P226s had issues too, as well as the Sig 556, 556R, 516 and 517 rifles. I call this the Microsoft model. Rush the products to market, sell, put money in the bank then deal with problems later. Unfortunate for the early adopters, but clearly a profitable MO for them as they've been posting record profits quarter after quarter.

The P226 has been production long enough now. There is little to worry about. If you must have a Sig 45, maybe look for a used safe queen P220.

Also if you have your heart set on this pistol already you might as well try to pick it up while they have the two free mag promotion. The mags aren't cheap.

See, heres the thing. I loved my .40 S&W SIG. it was a nice balance. However im a 1911 guy and love the big 45 rd and its knockdown power. The big push for a 227 in my world is that CA is going to make it impossible for me to get one after the first of the year. the 40 doesn't go away though, so it's still on the table even after the 1st. I realize this is a brand new gun and could have problems and id hate to send it back to SIG and then not be able to get it back because its off list. Both 40 and 45 are easy to reload for, so that's negated. I would assume parts for the 40 are more readily available because it's been around longer. I guess I'm just thinking about if I can only buy one should I get the one that after the 1st I can't anymore, knowing it could have issues. Or do I buy the tried and true one that I can get after the 1st :P firstworldproblems indeed.

Well i bought one and had to send it back two days later. The feed ramp was destroyed by the locking lug. I am still a sig fan but am sorely disappointed by the new manufactured sigs. They feel cheaper. That being said i never shot mine so i can't give you a performance evaluation. If i get mine back soon enough you're welcome to try it out as well. i purchased mine from Peter as well and he is dealing with sig for me. I'll link my thread here for ya

Rangerdoc in your shoes i would pick up the 227 and cross your fingers. I've only heard about two other 227s besides mine having problems. Here is my reasoning: the 226 is plentiful. They will be sold on the secondary market. You will be hard pressed to find a 227 used in ca because not many people have them. I definitely feel like the 227 should be the priority with the circumstances we face right now. Just my two cents anyway.

The American made sigs are a faint shadow of Sig quality of old, but still better than most.

Got one in May.Have not had any issues with it.Have only had it out a couple of times.Maybe 400 rounds.

Only complaint is I feel the rear sight notch is a little wide.If I continue to feel that way after a little more shooting,may swap sights.

Get the 227.

I have had three US Sigs and one W. German. All have a great NO problems what so ever.

If there's problem with P227, Sig will repair it. The reason why the warranty is there. If they don't make good on it, I will never buy another piece from them. So far, they're great with the services they provided me.

Sig reversed their policy on warranty repairs for off roster guns along while back. They will repair any pistol according to their warranty policy. The only time you will run into trouble is if the frame needs to be replaced. That is the case with any manufacturer.

Thanks for all the input guys. This is some great information. I am thinking I need to meet up with somebody who has one to shoot it before I make a decision. I've held one in cabelas reno and it felt good, but obviously things change once you start going bang. I have had a couple offers to meet up to shoot one so I'll do that and report back to y'all. It's refreshing to hear SIG will make good on their warranty even tho its an off roster gun.

Even though they supposedly changed their policy, I think it depends on who you deal with. I recall reading about someone who sent their off-roster P226 in and got a CA LCI version back within the past month. Big company and they're growing. The entire CS department may not be on the same page. Probably safest to get one through your local Sig dealer who can SSE and help you in case something is wrong.
