SIG 227

Greeting handgunners!

I have been smitten with the sig 227 and wanted to see if any of you have one and if you love it as much as the reviews I've read about them loves them. I am hoping to do an SSE through Mount Pleasant Arms before the 1st of the year and would like some input. When I lived in CO I had a 226 in 40 S&W and loved it. It ate every kind of ammo and didn't care if it was clean or dirty. I figure the 227 has the same legendary performance but wanted to be sure before i shell out nearly a grand for a pistol. :P

Well i bought one and had to send it back two days later. The feed ramp was destroyed by the locking lug. I am still a sig fan but am sorely disappointed by the new manufactured sigs. They feel cheaper. That being said i never shot mine so i can't give you a performance evaluation. If i get mine back soon enough you're welcome to try it out as well. i purchased mine from Peter as well and he is dealing with sig for me. I'll link my thread here for ya

Like i said i can't encourage or discourage you but i definitely think sigs quality has dropped off. My 226 feels more substantial than my 227. It might shot great though i don't know i never got the opportunity.

Hmmm that is good to know. Everything I've read about them makes me think the gun can basically walk on water because its so perfect. However I'm not familiar with the current quality of sig, so it is a bit disconcerting to hear you say that. Peter is a stand up guy so I'm sure he's taking good care of your situation with SIG. One of my biggest regrets is selling my 226 when I moved back to CA from CO. I needed $ and that was that. I'm currently planning to just buy my sig from him instead of doing the xfer/sse baloney from the internet. Unless i can find some screaming deal online I'd only save 5-10 bucks doing it that way and I'd like to support Peter.

If you pay cash his prices are the same as the cheapest on the internet once you count fees. Mine was 945 otd on the 7th of July. Like i said if i get it back day enough try mine out.

I have a German 220 that I've had since 1993. For me, the single stacks are far more comfortable in my hand and the fat grip of the 227 is just not worth the extra cost for only 2 more rounds of capacity.

I picked one quite a few months ago through MP Arms as well. Great gun, I've had about 850 rounds through her now. This is my first Sig that I am shooting so it took a few outing for me to get used to the higher bore axis (I've shot a Sig before, but this is my first time owning one).

The grip is larger, with the E2 grip. If you have small hands, try the grip out before you buy so you don't get caught off guard. I've ran a few different types of brass without any issues (can't remember the specifics off the top of my head but Blazer 230gr FMJ and Freedom Munitions reman 230gr for sure).

You may have read issues with trigger slap. I felt it when dry firing but not in live fire. It may have to do with my grip, YMMV.

At the end of the day if it is what you want, you should get it. My choices were my own and I have very happy with it. It feels great in my hands, shoots incredibly well out of the box and is a well made firearm. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Also, PM me if you'd like to try mine out.

It's my current home defense firearm.
I fired it last week.
Performed well and seems accurate enough.

Buddy of one bought one. He loaned it to me still brand new (crazy bastard!)! The thing was awesome!!! No issues what so ever. I think I put maybe 500 rounds through it. No hiccups. I put all the ammo that my 1911 wouldn't shoot through it. I really like it. I have a p220 so I haven't jumped on one but very tempted. I've never owned old german sig so I can compare quality

I have it and love it even though I don't shoot it well yet. My P226 in .40 is the gun I shoot best but I'm struggling with the P227 so far. It seems to shoot low for me.

I love my Gen 3 Glock 21 but I put a P227 in jail... Can't wait to shoot it.

Love Sig, but have to echo the sentiments of people saying Sig quality has dropped off. I bought my 227 two months ago, and mine won't lock back on an empty mag when using snap caps, however WILL lock back when out at the range, being fired. Spring tension on the slide lock is all out of whack. Fit and finish is typical Sig excellence, but it's going back soon....

I would say P226 unless you absolutely have to have a 45. The P227 is still new, and as with anything new from Sig (or any manufacturer), I would give it some time to iron all of the bugs out. The P226 has been around long enough to be a proven design and Sig USA has been producing them long enough to iron their production bugs out. In the secondary market, P226s are always in demand, so it's not likely to depreciate much—if any at all.

Also, Sig doesn't seem willing when it comes to shipping off-roster guns back to CA once it's gone to them for warranty repair. Something to think about in your decision process.

You bring up a very good point. I hadn't thought about warranty repair work, but then again, I never had to send in my 226...hrm

Also if you have your heart set on this pistol already you might as well try to pick it up while they have the two free mag promotion. The mags aren't cheap.
