Carrying it in a holster without a bodyguard?
"periodic maintenance could maybe protect against"

If you take care of it and clean it every once in a while this would not happen.Comment

I couldn't imagine that level of rust developing through an undershirt and a holster. Not to mention a lack of maintenance and/or practice with the gun.
I would think that if you were shooting that gun monthly and cleaning it after shooting it, that you would never develop that problem. If the gun were being carried against the skin and never maintained for a period of months in AZ (like the movie said) then yeah. Metal will rust.If you are wondering if you can get a LTC in Riverside County: THE ANSWER IS YES!

That's not really a shield issue, or any gun issue really. That's just pure laziness and nasty. A little cloth with some Eezox and that will look good as new.
But again this isn't an issue aside from poor maitinance/owner. This would happen with just about any standard firearm. My 870/700 rust from my finger tips let alone riding against my sweaty hip all day.
If a guy lets his CCW get that dirty, I don't think he should CC. Jus sayin.Comment

"I have has rust issues with the mag release button. It has rusted so badly that the spring will not return it to the lock position.
I have to do it manually...."
"Ha, after I praised the Shields coating, my mag release button started rusting too. Not the spring, but the actual button itself."
"I am having 2 rust issues with my shield, which I've had for about 3 weeks now. The forward roll pin is showing significant rust,
and there are several (very small) spots on the front of the slide."

Do you live in the hot climate of Arizona and don't regularly clean and maintain your firearm like the poster of that youtube video?
Context. Context. Context.
Stainless is still steel and not immune to oxidation, only less prone to it.Last edited by fmunk; 07-25-2014, 12:33 PM.Comment

That's an extreme example. Clearly it was carried daily and never cleaned. Hey, if he wants it that way, I don't care. First sign of rust on any gun I have would be right away. I carried a CW9 in AZ in my pocket. It was not coated, just the stainless slide. Never had any sign of rust, but had it started I would have at least wiped the thing down.
Carry guns don't need to be perfectly clean, but letting them rust like that is pretty lazy. At least get some CorrosionX on the inside, the surface rust won't affect anything but rusty internals is asking for issues. If he's sweating that much he should consider a different holster design to keep it from apparently flowing all over the gun.Comment

Shft, big deal.
Wait until you complete a gun take-a-way class, or a class in the rain, or you get your own blood on your pistol. Look Pops, no tears.
I'm not referring to some yewtube hillbilly tie your gun to the bumper and drag around just for kicks damage.Comment

I don't, but others might. Some likely live in Imperial County or Berdo where it can also get hot.
