    Glock 17, 10rd mag problems?

Hello guys. I bought a new Gen 3 Glock 17 a few weeks back. I took the Glock to the range today. Loaded up 10 rounds of PMC FMJ 115gr and starting firing. Well first round went bang, the second round had a FTFeed. Had to remove the mag all together to be able to clear it. Put the mag back in and every other round or so same thing! After 2 mags worth of issues I decided to take the Glock apart, nothing looked out of place. I put some CLP on the rails and feed ramp.

Shot 2 rounds and FTF again. This is my second Glock and I have been shooting Glocks for years without issues. Any idea what could be wrong with my pistol?? I lost a lot of confidence in this gun as this is my home defense gun.

The guy at the range was telling me that the Glock 17 10 round mags are horrible. Is this true? Has anyone else had the same issues as me?

When I came home I did a detailed cleaning of this gun. Took the slide completely apart and cleaned everything. Nothing seemed out of place.

Took it to the range after the above cleaning. Had a lot less problems but still got 3 failure to feeds regardless of which mags I used.

    Thank you guys!

My thought was limp wristing it. But you say you've shot glocks for years? :Stumped:

      check your followers

the flat 2882 or whatever number ones are junk.

you need the rounded 9mm-3 followers

Yes sir. When I went back the second time to shoot it after the cleaning I purposely tried holding it very lightly in my hands to see if it caused the problem and believe or not the times I held it very light it worked fine. So its not limp wristing for sure. People keep blaming the 10 rd mags. I dont know. Keep in mind that the same ammo I use on my Glock I tried on my girlfriend's cheap s&w sigma and it had zero issues. How embarrassing.

Has not happened to my Gen 3 Glock 17 at all. Have you tried different ammo by chance?

Yes I have heard this too. I currently have the 2183-2 followers. Why the hell would Glock still put these in magazines if they know they have issues?

I did try 50 rounds of Federal today. Didn't have issues with that brand. But honestly PMC has ran great in everything I've put it though. The reason I bought a Glock is because I didn't want to have to worry about these issues. I could understand reloads, but PMC makes decent ammo.

I hear you. But it could be that your Glock happens to not like PMC by chance. Not entirely out of the equation. Since Federal worked fine, maybe shoot 200 more rounds of Federal and re-assess. Or it could be that batch of PMC.

Do you have friends who own other 10-rd G17 mags? Maybe borrow them and try them out.

Don't think it was the ammo since it functioned flawlessly in my girlfriend's sigma. I was thinking about the mag too but I don't have friends who own a 17. But what are the chances that both mags have issues? I get FTF in both mags.

this, call Glock and ask for the 9mm-3 followers.

in truth its just that they're 10 rounders and the mag design is altered.

instead of a true double stack, or cutting the magazine down and using huge floor plates, they just rib the standard mag body to displace the stagger to only allow 10 rounds.

                      i think that's the problem.

Thank you. I hope someone who owns a Glock 17 with 10 round mags can chime in and tell me if they had issues with their mags. I will call Glock on monday.

My friend has a glock 40 compact. Not sure the model. 23 maybe. He has the same trouble. We noticed some visible wear on a curved piece of metal near the feed ramp from the casing getting stuck on it. My g19 doesn't have this wear on the same spot. Perhaps this wear spot is on your glock?

I have owned a G17 (gen 3) since 2009 , came with 2 , 10 round mags and i have never had any malfunctions like you have. Not even when it was new. And ive ran everything from the high end defense rounds down to the tula and brown bear steel cased laqer coated junk through it. ive had FTF where ive had a bad primer and had to tap rack bang but never anything like that. As a home defense gun the mags are always loaded and last year i replaced the springs after it stopped holding open on the last round because of the lost spring tension from keeping them loaded 24/7 , 365. I would call glock....
