Pros:
Excellent ergonomics
Interchangeable backs traps
Good factory steel sights
Low bore axis
It's one of the most ambidextrous guns out there
1911 grip angle

Cons:
The trigger, subjective to most but older models lack a felt reset which had been improved on the later models, the take up can be gritty and break somewhat heavy.
The 10 round mags suck and they're hard to find (although they are reliable function wise)
It's falling off roster next month

I personally feel it's a fantastic pistol. The trigger complaints are understandable but you have to realize that it's a striker fired gun with no external safety (other than the trigger itself) so the pull is supposed to be a little heavy. Nothing good training cannot overcome. The newer released models are stellar. The triggers are improved and the barrel lockup is vastly improved. What you do to it after market wise should be dependent upon it's intended role. If you are going to use to the gun for HD/SD then I suggest leaving the trigger stock and training accordingly. If it's for competition/range use, you can look at Apex Tactical for aftermarket trigger enhancements. Personally, I leave the 1911 type triggers in 1911's.

My opinion:

Pro: Grip is better than a Glock. Nice big sights.
Con: Trigger (stock) not as good as a Glock. Not quite as accurate. Overall quality slightly less.

I own both and like the M&P but I like my Glock a tiny bit more; despite the 2x4 handshake.

Thanks! I was planning on changing the trigger for competition use. I planning on getting it before it falls off the roaster!

I realize this is just your opinion but I respectfully disagree, and I am a huge Glock fan. The overall quality comment is just flat out inaccurate. The M&P's frame has a steel lined chassis, far more rigid than Glock. The accuracy issues on the M&P's have been improved years ago with changed barrel twist rates and lockup tolerances.

I agree with those comments. After shooting quite a few poly pistols, I choose the M&P. In reality, I shoot the Glock a bit more accurately, but the M&P easily has the best ergonomics to me and is most comfortable to shoot followed by the XD IMO. I'm now used to the sights on the M&P, but I don't mind the sights on any of them.

I never minded the trigger on my M&P, though it isn't perfect. Then I felt an Apex trigger, which feels nearly identical to my 1911. I already bought the Apex kit.

Takedown and cleaning, all are similar, but the Glock is the easiest to me by a small margin. The M&P you have to disconnect the mag safety, usually with a tool of some sort, but you do not have to pull the trigger to strip it; so sort of a trade off.

All three of them are extremely reliable thus far and I wouldn't have a problem carrying any of them, though the M&P is still my personal preference.

Only cons are trigger and sometimes there is ahuge shortage of 10 round mags. But that seems to have leveled out now...

After owning one for a year and a half I'd suggest just SSE'ing a PPQ (which I shot for the first time yesterday).

However, if you want to have fun shooting, get a CZ 75.

Just make sure to get a newer one, the trigger is not perfect but its much improved (and so is the barrel)

Mine is the newer type and while I still think the trigger is weird...I'm getting used to it.

If youre already planning on trigger work, you cant go wrong.
Midway and CDNN get the 10rd mags pretty often.

While you are messing with the apex, take out the stupid mag disconnect. The bonus to that is that you can then pull the trigger to field strip, instead of needing the tool to disengage the sear lever, which may or may not matter to you....

Was going to mention that too since I've seen other members here who've done that, but what are there legalities of doing that? I have mine on my CCW.

Well, unless your issuing agency specifically said no modifications, I'm thinking you should be fine. I am no legal expert, so take that opinion for what it is worth. I am in the camp that a good shoot is a good shoot, regardless of the modifications you have made.

Personally, for a carry gun I would prefer not to have the mag disconnect. Hypothetically, if something were happen say during a tussle and your mag were to become loose or separated from your gun you may pull the trigger expecting a bang and wind up with nothing instead. At least with no mag disconnect you can at least get 1 shot off, hopefully, if the need should arise.
