S&W did a small run of these I understand for the German and the French -

Some were release to the public -

I've yet to find additional details - It is not listed in their catalogs -

Odd since they list even smaller runs they do for Jovino -

and a dash 3 means the rear sight leaf screw has been moved. ?

it would really be interesting to find out why this is called a Model 19.

it's not listed in the SCSW, either. but I found a clue. model 19's are slightly beefier (no dimension given) in the yoke area, so frames forged that way probably were kept separate from service model "K" frames. and marked with the model # and dash # as soon as the yoke area was finished machined. in this scenario, the dash 3 only refers to a production era.

another anomaly I just realized is the serial- a Model 19 of that era would have a "K" in it. so I wonder if the usage of the "K" was partly for keeping track of costs- extra machining and sight parts.

fitting such an oddity would under a contract to the French.

S&W does/did that. Don't think I've ever seen any particular reason for it...

Sai, you find the coolest stuff; another Smith variation I've never heard of that has a cool history.
