locking your gun during a dros

I recently ppt'd an unfired handgun. I asked the ffl if I may lock it once we were all finished up, and very rudely he told me no, and some bs about it being in their possession.

Ive had a issue once before where the ffl played with the gun during the 10day wait, and did some damage.

So I was forced to leave it unlocked for them to potentially play with and probably shoot since they are a range, and the guy was talking to him self about he doesnt think hed like shooting it, like he had an idea to do so..

Also I realized half way home I was never given a safe avvivivivdid paper to sign, i think they may try boning me on a lock even tho the brand new gun came with one. If so it wont work ill have a reciept for a lock I purchased the day before.

Any input on this?

Probably... I dont understand why I couldnt put my cable lock through.. not like wouldnt be able to "process" he was getting quite rude about it and I wasnt about to make a scene.

I've locked up my PPT's before.. What legitimate reason can they possibly provide you for not acquiescing to your request..? Pretty damn lame.. Find another FFL and let them know their ineptitude has cost them some revenue..

Well its not like I had a choice. Rhe guy was real cool in the beginning. But towards the end he was unhelpful about guns they had on the rack. The seller had already left and I had already handed ffl $35 for the dros and that is when I asked about tossing the lock on.

IMO it kinda just makes you look insecure and paranoid. You agreed to an FFL with a range to do the PPT, even if you had secured it with the lock that most handguns already come with, how easy do you think it would be to take any other generic locks key and...?

That is if the REALLY wanted to, but what makes you and your gun so special.

were you clear that you were just going to put a lock on it, instead of locking it inside a case?

some people want to lock the gun in a case, but in that situation, the FFL can't inspect the serial number to double-check his paperwork, and if CADOJ/ATF come in for an audit during that time, that lock is getting cut off.

Now, if you are just talking about a cable lock through the magwell or down the barrel, there should be no justifiable reason for him to refuse.

well, since federal law requires that there a handgun safety lock provided to you, the Safe Affidavit is almost useless for a handgun transfer in CA.

should have had the seller put the lock on it right after you got done inspecting it and before you gave it to the FFL to PPT it. but hindsight is 20/20.

Could have happened while double checking the serial. Accidents do happen. What makes you think he was "playing" with your baby? And I would hope in that situation the shop would make it right for you.

If you drop a firearm on the ground and only the grips get scuffed consider yourself lucky...

LOL, I told my FFL to take my ppt out on the range and give it a good workout. If it's broke I don't want to wait 10 days to find out. But I trust my FFL completely.

Im sure there is a good chance that it will all be good. But its my gun, paid good money for it, and its not in my own safe..... id just like it locked up. I dont care if they take it out for legitimate reasons like double checking whatever needs to be checked. But no reason a cable lock cannot be installed. My first handgun was locked up, the only reason the p7 wasnt was because the factory case doesnt have the ability to lock, and the gun with a cable lock installed would not fit in its case

what are the regulations on selling an inoperable firearm? Not the exact situation but if i were the seller I'd just stick at lead slug in the barrel before PPT'ing it, and just let the buyer know its there...not the FFL. if the slug is gone, or the gun is blown up...one could assume the dealer may have played with it....lol.
