I was going to get one before I renew my CCW but can't find one before my renewal. The problem for me is a compact handgun is still not compact enough for me to carry in summer clothing. So instead of change my wardrobe or lose some weight, I am going to get a slimmer gun.

I held a XDs before and the grip is very uncomfortable for me. The Sig P938 is also on my wishlist as well.

You need to physically pick one up and handle it rather than rely on pictures on the internet.

I tried both side by side before I made my decision. The shield is noticeably narrower and, for me, more comfortable to grip. If you are comfortable with your Glock 26 etc., so be it, but don't think that because you have seen a picture, you know all the facts.

Same concept as the .22 lr ammo shortage, its hard to find so that makes people want it even more.

In other words for many of us it's the current Goldilocks of small 9mm/40S&W CCW pistols. Some of us refuse to stake our lives on anything less than a very- very reliable 9mm handgun.

This are my reasons as to why i placed one on layaway.
i cant dros as I just jailed another gun, but im very eager to shoot it.

A frind of mine owns the g19, nice lil gun, but it reallly is chubby compared to the shield.
The best way for me to explain the differnce between the g19 and the shield would be IWB vs OWB carry. The IWB would be shield grounds as the OWB would be g19 grounds.

Having CCW myself, I can relate to finding a thinner grip, short barreled semi auto that has been deemed reliable, being available in 9mm closes the deal for me.

I don't understand why people compare the Shield to the G26... the M&P9c is the direct competitor for the G26 and other double-stack, short-grip pistols.

Closest (common) tupperware comparison for the Shield would be something like the G42 (.380acp) or maybe the XD-S, since all are slim, "single-stack" style pistols.

I'm not sure I'd put pocket pistols like the LC9, LCP, or Bodyguard380 into this class either since those are in a class of their own, imho.

Probably because it's a big gun and just a little bit narrower than a double stack

Not every gun is worth the extra cost to SSE; I would rank the S&W Shield as one of them not worth that added cost, when there are plenty of other guns in same size and caliber that meet the same need. So for most people, the "newness" in California is because it's more readily available without the extra cost to SSE it.

I expect to see quite a few CA Shields up for sale in the classifieds within a couple of months

With something this cheap and popular, there's bound to be some impulse purchases where people realize it's not the gun for them.

I got wrapped up in the hype because two of my friends had them. Beautiful shooting gun really.
But it's NOT light or small.
I did the SSE, kept it for 2-3 months then sold it to a friend who was wrapped up in the hype even worse because he's one of those cop wannabe's. Found out it was LE only and that was it. SOLD.
Never regret selling it. DO regret selling the PM9, will get another tho.
The G26 is a good friend back in service until then.

My interview for CCW is this week. That means I should know within about three months if I am approved for the CCW. If I am, the Shield becomes my primary carry gun. If not, I will sell it, I have no use for a subcompact 9mm, other than CCW.

It's a fad here in Cali, because the CA roster version has come out just recently. Not everyone understands SSE or has ever heard of it.

I'm shooting the XDS9 3.3 and it's turning out to be a great gun. The trigger is getting better and better. The Shield is on its way next month for comparison. So far my Glock 26 is still the winner over the XDS. The G26 is the same size and holds 3 more rounds, although not as thin, but it's tough to beat that crisp Glock trigger. It will come down to carry comfort and figuring out what pluses and minuses you can live with.

But like everyone says it's cheap, compact, and a workhorse (CCW)
