Because the Shield costs $200 to $300 less than the PM9.

About $60 cheaper than a G26 but about the same size as a G19 yet doesn't hold 10 rounds. I have never CCW so while it is slimmer it doesn't seem slim enough to be worth it. Now when you down size to say a Karr or G42 that would seem to be the kind of trade off that would be worth it.

The only thing that makes me want a shield or lcp is the fact that if you ever use your ccw gun you more than likely won't be getting it back. Much easier to buy another $350 lcp than an $800 239.
You know that they handed Zimmerman back his gun after he was acquitted.

Also, who cares about getting the gun back if you actually have to use it to save your life. That's your smallest concern.

Yeah I sort of thought it was mostly hype. Just like a "want it because we can't have it" kind of thing.
I totally understand wanting the newest and coolest CC gun though, I just don't think it's thatcool for all the hubbub that's being made about it.
it's definitely not new... the recent chatter is of course because the CA version is finally available (and many have had deposits for well over a year)...

It's a reliable, economical, and very ergonomic pistol... the recent frenzy to apply for CCW drives the desire for this combo.

I'm not sure where you're shopping. When I priced them the everyday price for the G26 was $570 and the CA rostered Shield was $440 which is a $130 difference. It's still too early to tell how they'll compare for price when both are on sale. As for size comparisons you must have seen the shield with an extended magazine in place. The G19 is more comparable to the much smaller compact double stack (roughly G26 sized) M&P9c which fell off the roster but at $530 was still ~$40 cheaper than the Glock.

I have never CCW so while it is slimmer it doesn't seem slim enough to be worth it.
That depends on your size and build. The G19 is a good but chubby little pistol that does not fit every hand as well as the S&Ws (9c or shield). The thicker the slide the harder it is to wear comfortably and the thicker the grip the harder it is to conceal. If you're a really big guy these may not be factors that concern you but they are important to small and average sized folks.

Since California allows at least 3 pistols on a CCW it's a good idea to have a "cold winter nights" sized pistol like a G19 or Commander/CCO sized 1911; a "spring/fall" G26 sized handgun; and a "hot summer day" sized pistol like the Shield or PM9.

Now when you down size to say a Karr or G42 that would seem to be the kind of trade off that would be worth it.
Kahr's PM9 is a very nice little pistol but it's about $250 more money. The G42 is a .380 and thus not in the same league as the 9mm or 40S&W Shield and is unlikely to become readily available to the general public in California. A .380 is just too marginal for me to bet my life on.

It's cheap, decent trigger, good feel in your hand, good size for a 9mm pistol.

That being said, I had a non-CA model for a few months before I decided to sell it. Now I have a Glock 42 and I like it even more. Sure it would've been nice if it was a 9mm, but that isn't deal killer for me.

I was quite interested when hearing of it. When Turners got them in last week, I planned rushing to get one. But after Googling for photos of it next to a Glock 26/27, I didn't even leave the house or look any further. No need. Essentially I've already got what it offers in both my Glock 26 & 27.

Note that even online there is still a $99 price difference.

This could be the silliest youtube ever . The youtuber is using pretty generic holsters and you are ignoring the actual size differences of the pistols themselves. If you look side by side the Glock 19 is substantially longer, thicker, and taller. I don't have the specs on 3rd generation glocks handy so you'll just have to go look for yourself.
