I did the mod of removing the 2 springs, the pigtail and outer spring and tested it. Before 11 3/4lb average After 7 1/2lb average No other modifications or polishing. Both M&P 40c pistols come in at 7 & 7 1/4 lb average(old and new respectively) of 10 pulls with the Lyman gauge. I am happy...

Many threads on this at the S&W forum.

On my SW40VE, I removed the pigtail spring and used a softer with less preload spring for the outer one.
After studying the design, I did not feel comfortable with just removing the outer spring.
The softer spring was from my collection of springs so I don't have a reference for you on that.

These guns were designed for LE use with a long and heavy double action revolver style trigger pull to help prevent NDs.
They were never intended to have a Glock type short and light trigger pull.
The mods will make the gun much easier to shoot.

If you are in So Cal, Guns Direct in Burbank has one in their display case. 818-848-4867.

Ha! You guys can shoot steel core ammo up there, I would trade that for gun choice availability in a minute!

Too bad affordable handguns are a dwindling species here in CA.

I bought my wife a S&W SD9VE a couple years ago from BPS.... out the door for like $400.00
It has been a really nice shooting pistol for sure!

I wish one of the LGS had it in stock for me to play with.

I don't own one, but I've played with one in the store. If you absolutely cannot or will not pay over $500 for a new gun, the SD9 VEs is a good choice. Personally, however, I'd pay a little more for an M&P or preferably a Glock, both of which have longer, better reputations and far better aftermarket support. By the time you figure in the Apex trigger that both Smiths need (the SD9 VE more than the M&P), the Glock isn't that far away in price and is very good right out of the box.

I have never bought a gun under $500 lol. I already own the m&p full size and compacts. I've had glocks before, but this gun is just to beat it around throw it on the floor and kick it around a few good times. lol
