Impractical pistols

Disagree on the accuracy of the mini revolvers.
I have a Freedom Arms mini in .22 mag w/ 4 shots cylinder.
Excellent accuracy even with such a short barrel,
pops golf ball all day long at 15 feet.
For those that have actual, extensive experience with
revolvers, they can and generally are very, very accurate.
A typical early production Smith 29's in good condition can punch clover leaves easily.
at 50 ft!

How about a Lone Eagle in 308?

First off it is a breach loader, then you have to cock it so it is slow to shoot.

Once you pull the trigger you can't see what you hit until your eye balls stop wiggling and you better keep your mouth closed so you don't loose your fillings.

It is probably the worlds fastest way to get carpel tunnel syndrome.

I like revolvers, I have a few of them, including a pair of single action Rugers and a blackpowder 1858 Remington replica. You can't get more impractical than that!

Of my modern revolvers, I think that with speedloaders/moonclips, they can be "practical" but if it were a duty weapon, I'd choose a semi any day.

The 1986 Miami Shootout, and the 1970 Newhall Massacre show how impractical revolvers are.

In the Miami shootout, one agent was single loading (!!) this revolver, got two rounds in and then had to decide ... do I return fire with just the two rounds already in there, or keep loading? If I close the cylinder, which way did it turn again? Will I get two rounds off, or four clicks before the rounds fire? (This is from the FBI training video that showed the shootout and interviewed the agents after). One agent emptied his 9mm semi, and did a New York reload to a revolver, fired one round and decided "this is dumb" and switched back to his semi and reloaded it.

In the Newhall massacre, one of the dead CHP officers was found with his half loaded .357 in hand. It was after this incident that the CHP started issuing speedloaders.


So back to the topic on hand, a blackpowder revolver is nice and impractical, you can also just order one online and have it shipped to your door.

Impractical is a gun you buy that doesn't see any use. An AR pistol that goes to the range every other trip is more practical than a glock that never leaves the stack-on safe.

I think the issue here is that some people are defining "practical" as useful in a gunfight with a heavily armed & armored miscreant. Personally, I think that's a fairly narrow definition.

Get one of those 50 BMG one shotters. It's a flame thrower that also has a bullet in it. I saw one in Nevada a year ago and it shot 9-12' fireballs. Also ha a mild kick really. Guess 6" barrels don't get a lot of pressure from a 6" round.

Long Slide 45 Super!! Very nice Sir!

Maybe a longslide 45 would fit the bill.This is my Springfield V-16, set up to shoot .45 Super when want a little extra pop but also handles .45 acp fine. Not sure who still offers longslide 1911's but hopefully there is something out there. You could also go with the 50GI in a Glock.

I have a handgun that seems somewhat impractical. Low magazine capacity even though it is a full sized, relatively heavy handgun. Maintenance and field stripping are a bit more complicated than your average pistol. It can be picky at times as to what magazines and ammo it likes to run reliably with. And I haven't (personally) found a method of carrying one safely and ready that I am comfortable with.

But since it is the most beloved handgun in American history, I shall leave it off the list, out of respect.
