Will these work with a 1911?

Wilson and Tripp are the be-all-end-all. They've worked with every 1911 I've tried. I'd skip the outdated 47D though and go with the ETM or the Cobra Tripp.

Magazines are a main failure point for 1911s. You can spend a lot of money on cheap mags, trying to find ones that will work. Or you can just buy quality magazines. It's often cheaper in the long run to buy quality first.

Excellent. Like was mentioned earlier, in the 80s at the gun shows you can pick up three, four or five mags for $10 depending if it was used, ANIB or NIB. I must have 50 or 60.

My Colt uses any mag but my Rock Island is picky so YMMV

Yup, I got mine at the Pomona gun show. They were new surplus wrapped up in this brown wax paper looking stuff. I think I bought 15-20 of them. I have sold some and I have about 8 left and they still work great.

And we have the inevitable Wilson Combat post. This is my opinion only...
Wilson is not the be all, end all magazine to buy for the 1911. Neither is Tripp. Or even CMC. It all depends on the gun. Some are more finicky than others. I have magazines from various manufactures, including CMC, Wilson, Mec-Gar, Novak, Checkmate, etc. I even have some $8 CMC knockoffs with the base pads that I got from CDNN some time back. And you know what? Every magazine I have from every manufacturer works in every 1911 I have except one. My DW Cbob doesn't like the CMC 10 rounders. They work in all the others, just not the DW. And how many mags do I have, you ask? I can load a case of .45ACP in all the mags and still have mags left over.
Buy a couple of the cheap mags. Try them out. If they work, buy more. Try other brands. What doesn't work in yours may work just fine in someone else's. Be bold. Venture forth and spend lightly.

I agree. Lots of 1911s and 1911 mags over the years...

My favorites are Chip McCormicks, but every one I've ever used haved worked except for not one, but two kimber mags. I think kimber mags suck!

I bought MecGars and Metalform mags from 15 years ago and they are still going strong. Never a problem with them. I prefer blued steel instead of stainless when leaving the mags fully loaded for long durations. I have one 7 rounder that's been fully loaded constantly since the early 90s and still going strong. Buying rock bottom cheap mags is risky. I have some 1911 mags that came with guns I bought and they are sitting on my bench for tweaking. Some are just good for the scrap yard. If you buy a $1K+ gun why load it using $8 mags?

Both 47Ds I bought made excellent but pricey paperweights till I replaced the springs.

spend some money on good mags .... i got a ton of CMC powermags from midway for 25/ each with some crazy coupon code as well to cut the total down. i just put 400 flawless rounds downrange today, though my wallet is in shambles

i had Wilson 47D's with my (sold long ago) kimber TLE RL2 and Dan Wesson, no complaints either.

these guns need good mags, just spend the money for a better (stoppage free) experience...

True that. I still have some that are still unwrapped. I miss Pomona that was some good times.
