First .45 I ever bought was a S&W 1911. Felt so good in my hand compared to a lot of the others in the store including Glock 21 and HK 45 (not knocking these since I do now own a Glock 30sf and HK USP9c). Took 1911 to range and quickly realized it was most accurate handgun I owned, and I had a few 9mm's at the time.

But then I read all the posts about reliability issues that are always on forums regarding 1911's and was really annoyed at myself because was thinking of it not just as a range toy but as possible bedside gun as well and felt I had made a mistake in going for a 1911- I was still new to shooting at the time.

Well, 5 years and 4,000 rds later I have not had one, not one, ftf in that handgun- and that includes not just fmj but any JHP I have tried (I currently use the Speer Gold Dot 230 gr JHP). Never one malfunction and I admit I don't take great care of it either as in clean it every time get home from range. I understand this is my only 1911 but I would bet my life on it and that is why it's my bedside gun cocked and locked- it's pretty easy to disengage a safety in a split second after get muscle memory down.

Also, my 1911 points a lot like my M&P so if you like the feel/natural poa of M&P I find it similar to 1911. But don't pass up a 1911 because you think it won't feed reliably, lots of good ones out there these days under $900 and just make sure you buy a bunch of Chip Mcormick or Wilson mags and you'll have no problems.

I own my Glock 30sf just cause always wanted to own a Glock- takedown so damn easy and can just throw it around- so yeah that is one negative in that takes me a bit longer to field strip my 1911 compared to all my other platforms but once you've done it 20 times it's pretty simple.

Well Tim.. your 1911 is a S&W... great choice... they are very good at making autoloaders that reliably feed ammo!!

I'm done feeding the troll. Its clear that you have limited experience with firearms. You seem to be afraid of 1911's so you bash them and regurgitate every gun rag cliche. You ignore the facts and continue to insist that a 1911 is more dangerous than a striker fired gun.

Have I ever been shot at? No. Have I manipulated a firearm under stress? Yes (I shoot USPSA every weekend). And I am not a 1911 fan boy / Glock hater, I shoot both and enjoy both. I also make informed statements based on actual experience.

I never shot USPSA before, but I have competed at other activities.. so I very well know the stress of competition.....

Funny... I don't hate 1911's... I don't even hate a SA trigger.... but you apparently disagree with the concept of the effect of potential death on fine motor skills... that is the real subject... and many police forces and other LEO's have in fact gone to DA only and longer trigger pull pistols... why do you suppose? To disadvantage their officers? Tell me why again 99% of law enforecement doesn't use a SA only 1911 style pistol?

I have never owned a 1911... my father did... and he tricked it out... as a race gun... Prolly I have only 1000 bullets through it myself... shot reall sweet....

Just so you know... I have been in two situations in my life that were potential "Someone might die" occasions.... (I didn't like it and I don't ever wanna do it again!)

First time, it involved activities I had trained in, my physical reactions were as I trained... I lived... they lived... all good....

Second time was a situation I could not have possibly trained in, could not even imagine myself in... someone died.... Had I (or others present) had appropriate training or even the correct mind set... prolly the victim woulda lived.... but during this situation... the simple motions I tried to do, that prolly oughta'd taken 4 seconds took prolly 10 seconds... felt like 30 seconds and peripheral awareness was ZERO.... (Freak car accident that happened right in front of me)

You seem to take this 1911 issue rather personally... makes a rational discussion difficult...

I take ignorance personally. If you were bashing a Beretta or a Sig when you didn't own or shoot one I would have the same reaction. You admit that you have never owned a 1911, yet you are expert enough on a platform that you don't own and have minimal trigger time on to make statements that a single action trigger is more dangerous. You make ridiculous statements that a Glock 5.5 lbs trigger is safer than a 1911 5.0 lbs trigger.

I guess the military was just lucky that its issue side arm for 75+ years didn't kill every soldier, marine, sailor, and airman it was issued to.

Why do police agency's use striker fired guns..... cost. Many, many agencies allow officers to carry 1911's if they purchase and qualify with them.

Don't bash something that you don't know about. Why do you think police agencies dumped the 4506? Is it unsafe? No, its cost. You seem to forget that the second shot on a 4506 is SINGLE action.

                  Dear Customer,
Mostly for law enforcement the first pull is a long DA pull to prevent accidental discharge. The following rounds are single action to provide quick follow up shots.
If further assistance is required please reply accordingly.
                  Sincerely,

Mostly I wouldn't recommend a 1911 for a ccw because they are big and compact 1911 aren't a good value for the money. I would get any popular plastic compact 9mm [less recoil and the bonded bullets work great]
