Glock 19 or 23

Going to finally enter the 21st century next week and throw down on a Gen 4 (sse) Glock 19 or 23. I will no longer feel like the only guy under 40 who exclusively owns revolvers when it comes to pistols.

I'm pretty set on this frame size as I have shot both and seem to shoot both equally well (probably a little faster on the 19 because of the recoil).

The cost between the two cartridges seems to have evened up pretty close. Being limited to 10 rounds in CA has me leaning towards a larger cartridge, but if I ever luck out and take a lady on a sweet date to the shooting range I don't want her to hate shooting a .40.

Also my favorite revolver I own is a S&W M19, so it would be kind of cool to have two generations of very (if not the most) common police sidearms from the last 50 years with the G19 in the collection. I'm literally stuck in coin flip territory at this point so any advice or votes one way or the other are appreciated.

g23 and a 9mm conversion barrel.

I personally stay with the G19. That is just me. Another thing to consider is that in today's ammo technology, modern 9mm JHP's can perform as well as the .40S&W for defense.

The one advantage I can see in having a G23 is that you can buy a conversion barrel to shoot 9mm. So on the G23, you can easily get the best of both worlds (9 and .40).

I vote 19 because of the faster sight recovery and cheaper ammo. Performance against 2-legged critters is about equal to the 23 when using good ammo. Do u plan on having it as a hunting sidearm? Lastly, I've seen some conversion barrels on a 23 not work %100.

All that said, both are great and I'm sure you will be happy with either.

I'm not a fan of conversion barrels. I'm also not a fan of the 40 cartridge.
I am a huge Glock fan and I'm a huge 9mm fan so for me the choice was easy.

I have 2 G19's because one was simply not enough

Nah, this is mainly for sport shooting. My .357 magnum will always be my in the woods sidearm.

Reliability was my main concern with the conversions, then again if I'm just using it to play with at the range I guess it is no biggie.

First gun ever was a G23. Back in '05, I was learning to shoot handguns. The G23 was too snappy. Sold it and have owned 3- G19's since. Absolutely love the G19.

My first Glock was a G23. I sold it a long time ago. I tried .40 again via the XD40 Tactical. Sold it after a couple years. Then I went to 9mm via G17 and G19. I think the 9mm is fine. With today's ammo you get good accuracy and impact on target, along with high round count in the mags (assuming standard capacity). On top of which you get better recoil performance.

Then of course you get the benefit of cheaper ammo (factory or hand loads).

Note: My cartridge progression in pistols from then to now is 9mm, to 40, to 45, to 40, to 9mm. I still have 1911's in 45, but I don't really shoot them. All of my pistol time are with 9mm Glocks.

Bigger bullet, bigger hole. If you want you can always change out the barrel to shoot 9mm or 357SIG if you're in the mood.
