Glock 42 Problems?

I think the reporters main point was not that there was a problem, but that Glock would not talk to him. He did say that he very happily carries a Glock, so I don't think he is out to cause trouble, just find the truth.

I put 250 rounds through my g42 without any issues (WWB, PPU, Herters, S&B, and Remington JHP). Haven't had a chance to try out the Hornady Critical Defense and Federal Hydro-shock yet. I love this gun so much I DROS the second G42 yesterday.

Not that it effects me but has anybody else heard of glock requiring replacement barrels to have a matching stock number to the original mentioned in the linked site and by stock number are they talking serial number on the gun or more of a lot number?

"I spoke with a customer service person at Glock in Smyrna, Georgia and was informed that the barrel for the G42 is produced in Austria with a waiting period of 6 to 8 weeks before barrels are shipped, and that all barrel replacements must bear the stock number in which to coincide with the stock number for the gun," the gun owner told me. "So the G42 that I purchased back in January means that I will not have my gun back until April 2014. I also called Glock in Austria and we'll see if I get a call back or not. Not very good customer service."

Ah, the fun we look forward to if micro stamping stays put and they realize they would need to regulate commonly replaced parts.

Ok... tonite was first range visit for my 42. Didn't do a thing to it just loaded up some mags and had at it.

Here's the ammo I used.



I fired 2 mags of each box so each of my mags were used for each brand.

36 rounds down range @ 6 yards first time shooting the gun.



It was only 6 yards but I was happy with that.

However the g42 was anything but flawless. It puked all over itself on the blazer. Ftf... fte... stovepipe 12 rounds maybe 2 of them were consecutive.

The brass max was better. 2 or 3 failures out of 12 rounds



The wwb ran 100%. It says target on the box and the bullet looks like a wad cutter and I didn't expect it to run at all after what the blazer did but it worked fine.



Six mags down range and not one locked open on the last round but that's probably on me my thumb tends to land right on the slide lock.

I'm thinking the recoil spring is stronger than it needs to be, it seems to me that the g42 likes hotter rounds and has problems with lighter loads but that's just my first thought.

One of the reasons I bought it was I thought my wife and daughter would enjoy shooting it. However it's not as soft shooting as I thought it would be and the slide is a bit on the slippery side and not as easy to rack as I hoped. They haven't tried it yet so that is to be determined.

So in conclusion, I love everything about it and I like how it shoots but I'd like to make the slide cuts a little deeper and put some front serrations on it too.

Obviously it was ammo finiky for me but it has a lot of potential and I'll figure it out. Guess I wasn't as lucky as the other posters.

Jerry Miculek encountered some problems when he was shooting a friend's g42. He does admit that he did not lube the pistol at all

Ran another 100 through mine last night after getting back into town. Had a few failure issues. Couple failures to extract, twice the round being chambered jammed against the feed ramp. One ftrtb.

Figured out that it was ME causing the issues. I have to be very conscious of where my hand is. I developed my habits on the 1911 platform and am a thumbs forward guy, my strong hand thumb was riding the slide, probably showing it down causing the extraction issues, the other issue was accidentally hitting the mag release with the palm of my support hand causing the mag to slightly disengage and the gun to not be able to chamber the next round.

Shooting one handed in either hand gave me no problems, so I adjusted my grip and everything was fine after that. Makes me leery about carrying it, don't want a carry gun that may fail if I don't hold it perfectly. Giving it another 200 rounds before I make my personal verdict.

I may also pick up the Kahr CW380 and give that one a go.

Yup that's what I'm thinking... I know I was on the slide lock. I've been doing dry fire single hand and also two hand cupping my strong hand revolver style. I have to remember it's not a competition pistol and not worry about holding it like one.

UPDATE:

second range visit same ammo same mags lubed slide and changed my hold.

I ran 14 mags down range and had not one failure of any kind.

Slide locked open on last round eveey time.

As long as I keep my thumbs off the slide it runs great.

It's a pleasure to shoot and for a small gun I do alright with it. I like it a lot.

How long has the G36 been around and still no high-cap/extended magazines for those.

I'm let mine go. 200 rounds today, all clean and lubed, no failures I can attribute directly to the gun, but if I accidentally held it the wrong way or switched to shooting thumbs forward, the way I shoot EVERY OTHER GUN that I own, my thumb riding against the slide would cause a failure. Gun is a dud for me, if I can't just draw and shoot it without having to make sure my thumb isn't on the slide then it's completely useless for concealed carry.

Guy at the range I was chatting with asked to try it out, said he was really interested in getting one, so I let him put a mag through it, saw the look on his face and asked if he wanted to buy it. Explained the issue I was having with it and he asked me what I wanted for it. He was pretty happy about it, since these are impossible to find in stock locally and I was happy because I managed to only lose a few bucks on it.

Did order a Kahr CW380 to give a go with, and thinking about trying to get a Beretta Pico if Beretta ever finally gets them out of the factory.

I'm going to stick with the 42 with a little practice I could do pretty good at 15 - 20 yards I think.

For such a small pistol in a ccw application I'm thinking if I pulled it I would be taking a -7 yard shot and that would be single hand hold. But yes if my thumb is on the slide it doesn't work so now that I beleive it does work I'm going to play around with it and see if my weak hand thumb can also cause a problem.
