Mostly used but on the cleaner side for me. Have lucked out so far with the only real pieces of garbage having been new .380s and one 9mm Sigma that I bought from an estate as part of a larger package deal.

Purchasing A Used Firearm

+100, I own about 2 dozen rifles that are 50+ years old and only one wasn't well-used. they all work fine and all shoot very well, better than I do for that matter. a well-made firearm will always be just that, and respond accordingly, regardless of use. I'm more inclined to buy something tried and true than some newfangled turkey that may or may not be decent. that said, I just bought a new ruger lc9, which is my first NEW handgun ever, but I'm really not much of a pistol person and if I were shopping rifles, I'd be looking for something not made in this century. I also own a ruger p97dc and a smith
686-1 that are both my babies, but they're just there to get me back to my rifles....Comment

I've bought mostly used guns for years, mainly because the guns I like are no longer made.I only buy minty looking guns and have never bought one I have regretted. There have been a few that failed my inspection.Thats why I dont buy sight unseen.Comment

I've bought some used rifles. Got great deals on them and they've been great. As for handguns, there are aome off roster guns I'm eyeing. Unfortunately it has to be done in person so geography limits that.
My first handgun I ever bought was a used 686 that is the sweetest shooting thing I ever shot. That was 24 years ago.
But unless someone totally went the full bubba on it a used gun should be fine.NRA Life Member since 1990
They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

I don't mind buying a used gun as long as it is well cared for. The only condition I have is that the gun have no permanent mods (trigger jobs, etc.) because a custom gun will work for its original owner, but obviously not for me, someone who may have different tastes and preferences.Comment

Hard to buy NEW C&R guns
Hard to buy guns no longer made (Ruger Police Carbines, JM made lever actions, Marlin Camp Carbines, Hi Standard target pistols etc)
Too many GREAT deals to pass up on used guns that people impulse purchased, or safe queens etc etc.
That's ok - you keep buying new, leaves more used guns for the rest of us.Comment

I knew a bubba who was a 'do it yourself, self taught' gunsmith. Back in the days when you put up a 3" x 5" card to sell guns at shooting ranges. He'll do trigger jobs on S&W revolvers and then sell them. When you call him back to say the hammer strikes are to light to fire a round, he'll blame you for being a reloader or that you use the wrong ammo or you do not know guns.
So I very seldom buy used. YMMV

Know the gun, know how to inspect it, test fire, then purchase. I only buy used guns when it is a great deal. Otherwise, I always buy new.*********************

its not like buying a car jeez. Guns have few moving parts that wear out or fail.Comment

I have bought guns at the auction and have been happy. I have bought pistols that were 60 years old like new. Some of the guns in the store are not made as good as the older ones,Comment

Most of my guns were bought used. Would do it again and definitely will.Comment
