Hand Cannon - Help Me Decide

Between Desert Eagle (44/50) and S&W 500...

I've always owned semi-autos... never had a revolver... have no special purpose other than "to have" - occasional range fun primarily... ammo cost isn't a factor, as I won't shoot it that often (and they are both expensive)...

Any opinions on which to get?...

Why not get multiples of both? I have an original unfired Desert Eagle from 1986, 24K .50 AE Desert Eagle, 500 Magnum 4", and the 7.5" PC 500 Magnum. Don't just settle for one, because they are all fun.

I would go with the S&W 500, but that's just me.

The S&W. More a real gun, less of a novelty item.

And more fun to reload, even though you state cost of ammo isn't a factor. You could download, and put all kinds of bullets in it.

Get the magnum research revolver in 45-70.

Definitely the S&W. I wouldn't mind an XIX DE so you can switch calibers out but only if I had the 500 already.

Have you looked into the S&W 460XVR? It can shoot the .460, .454 casull, and .45 long colt, just cuz it might be fun to switch it up from time to time.

S&W 500 short barrel with compensator if you want a ridiculous hand cannon. Get the longer barrel version if you want it to be a bit more practical and comfortable to shoot.

Of the two, it seems the 500 is the general consensus... I tend to favor that one too... but damn I like the Desert Eagle...

I'd definitely get a longer barrel... at least 8.38" (it has interchangeable comps too if I'm not mistaking)...

While I'd like to have both the semi and the revolver, the only one I'm seriously considering is the Smith.

I found one for sale used -- 4" with compensator.


There's also a shorter barrel revolver for sale there without the compensator.


Hard to choose.

Better get the 500 first! You can always add the Desert Eagle later.
