I would shoot/try a few more options before jumping with and LC9, like an XD or Glock etc. - not to say that this is not a good gun, but since it's your first - try others before you buy. I would also shoot a 40 and 45 - then decide. My friend started with an LC9, then LC380 and now a Glock 9mm.
I have 9mm, 40 and a number of 45s. My ECD is an XD40SC, enjoy shooting my 45s and 9mm. I didn't like the LC9 or LC380, Glock does not fit well in my hand, so I mainly have XDs, 1911s and revolvers. So try some more out and then go with the one that you like the best and as other said, practice, then practice and then practice more.
For me, HD 870 progressive load 8-shot, 00 and slug and the ammo for my EDC is what the local police and sheriffs use, Speer Gold Dot LE or Winchester Ranger XT.
