A quick search on GB brings up $1/round, however you may want to find a better deal, I guess. Anyway, practicing with this ammo is a lil expensive.

.40 is just a short weak 10mm.
You compare super-expensive hand selected hottest 9mm +P+ to regular .40 which is a way cheaper.

the ranger T i listed comes in 50 round boxes...not 25, so take that into consideration

.40 SW is already loaded hot, so make sure YOU are comparing apples to apples, and not comparing 115 gr standard when boasting the performance of "fo tee"

I've never shot a .40 but from what I hear, they have much more kick. To me, that means acquiring and getting 2nd shot on target is easier with the 9mm.

9mm is FAR better than .380. And if you get top-quality self-defense ammo (i.e. Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot, Winchester Ranger), I believe that the bullet expansion will help with the possibility of over penetration.

It doesn't really matter what you use if you miss. Lots of practice with your chosen firearm/ammo combination is much more important than which round you use. If you do your job right the dead bad guy in your living room isn't going to jump up and ask to read the label on your ammo box.

I have the LC-9 and it works reliably with Federal AE and Hornady Critical Defense, both in 115 gr. I find that the rounds shoot and group very similar. I like that as ball ammo is cheaper for practice. I don't use it for HD(trigger slap annoys me) but, I take comfort in knowing I could as it would work reliably with my chosen ammo.

To be honest, I don't find much difference in followup shot speed and accuracy between my G19 and M&P40. I'm no gung ho operator who dual wields S&W 500's either.

Hm... From your standpoint, 22lr is the ideal one. No recoils, super fast follow up shots. Would you use it?

Rent .40 and try it. Kick is harder than 9mm, but practice with it and you'll love it.

Disspite what others say and will say of the big 3 (9mm, 40s&w and 45acp) modern hd/sd ammo has closed the gap significantly. I chose 9 after owning all 3 due to magazine size ( yes I have +10rnd mags), cost per round, recoil and quick follow up shots (IDPA).

That being said my choice for hd/sd ammo is heavy for caliber 147gr Speer gold dots. The ar15.com link above is full of good info.

IMO 40 is not even worth looking at. Oh a .22 is plenty capable in the right hands, ideal no, I'm sure a quick google search will show you that.

If you are talking about the .060" difference in expanded rounds between 9mm and 45. I guess you would have to be within sixty thou of a vital organ to change the game with 45 over 9.
