9mm 1911?

i shot a 1911 for the first time and i absolutely loved it and did very well with it. however, .45 cuts a little deep in the wallet and for personal reasons i really dont want to get a glock 19 as my first handgun. 9mm however is still priced pretty good online in 500 round shipments.

are 9mm 1911's hard to find? are they as good as .45 1911's? anyone have one of these things? how much are the magazines for these things

i dunno if this means anything, but i usually go to the river city gun exchange to get guns.

When you're at River City Gun Exchange, take a look at a Springfield EMP-9. I think you'll like the ergonomics. The EMP-9 is a scaled-down 1911 made for the 9mm round. I have one and think enough of it to have the pistol in my CCW rotation.

That's going to be about the median price-point for a 1911 chambered in 9mm.

1911 pistols in 9mm will run you around $1k for a basic. Their arent that many on the roster and that makes them even pricier in Cali. If I was going to get a rostered 1911 (9mm) it would be the Kimber Target and off roster 1911 (9mm) would be something custom like a STI

Agree. I really like mine, its reliable, comfortable, eats whatever I put in it (except steel cases which it will never see), accurate and easy to shoot.

Yes, it is $1000+. But it is a Springfield, so not only is it well made, but if there are any issues, Springfield customer service is top notch. I have no regrets with mine, and I've had it for a number of years with no major issues. I did have one of the grip screws break, but they sent another one immediately, and I didn't keep an eye on the rear sight set screw so it worked its way out. Again they sent me another one immediately. Both of these were no cost to me and no shipping charges.

I've also fired a number of Kimber models and they seem like fine guns too.

You can get 9mm conversion kits. Just need to have the barrel fit.

I picked up a RIA tactical 9mm for $550 including the SSE fee about 18 months ago. They are still in a similar price range. Best bang for your buck in my opinion.

If you're going to get one RIA's 9mm 22tcm combo is hard to beat at around $530 retail (before SSE etc.).

Besides that, STI Spartan at under $700 online. Will also require SSE.

Springfield Armory also has a full sized 1911 in 9mm. It is a Loaded model (PI9134L), which happens to be on the roster. Compared to the EMP (PI9209L), which is also on the roster, it should be approximately $175 less, but finding one is pretty hard.

Springfield also makes a Parkerized Range Officer in 9mm that costs a little less than the Loaded (PI9129L), but it is not on the roster. Good luck.

Just get the EMP9.

Then the G19 (maybe 23 with a conversion) and a full size 1911-45acp.
That's a good well rounded start to a collection in size and caliber...sub-compact (9mm), compact(40sw/9mm), full-size (45acp).

Browning High Power very similar to the 1911 on the drawing boards. World famous 9mm and I carry one if that makes a difference.

My grandpa for one. Came back from WWI in 1919 with his 1911 and that is the only handgun he ever owned. YMMV

Another option - RIA 1911 in 38 Super, and a 9mm barrel. Easy swap.
