Yes, S&W is lost right now when it comes to having work done or ordering parts. They need to get grip on this. I have one there on a warranty repair and will have trigger job done while there. Sent it in the summer and still waiting. I could have done the repair myself but figured a free trip to S&W and a trigger job that I always wanted them to do. I suggest other options for your needs. Good Luck

What was wrong with it, how did they correct it?

They likely replaced the sear plunger pin spring; they could have just sent you a new Sear Block
The trigger bar wouldn't release the sear.

I did use your link. Thank you. My apologies for flaming you.

Looks like the Apex trigger might be the most economical was to go. I did a little research at the FedEx site and it wi cost about $80 to send the gun to Dan Burwell. That's insured for the value of the gun and next day delivery. Not to mention the cost of the trigger job and shipping back to me.

Apex kit really improves the M&P.

FYI. Sear block without mag safety is on sale at Midway. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/546...sig-40-s-and-w

I called about a S&W Model 639 that needed a complete rework and was told 8 to 10 months.

With the Apex duty/carry kit the trigger pull is reduced to about 5.5lbs. That's only a pound less that factory. Is that really enough to make a big difference when replacing the rest of the parts in the kit?

I can't comment on the difference between the "new" trigger that the M&Ps have been shipping with for a while, but for the older ones it does make a big difference. The pull is significantly smoother, and the break is much cleaner, even if the overall weight isn't decreased by that much. Personally I wouldn't want it any lower than that on a gun with no manual safety anyway.

Just checked, according to a Wheeler trigger gauge mine is 5lbs. There's more to the whole feel than pull weight, as mentioned above. Crisper break makes a difference.

Note that the kit includes a trigger return spring that actually increases the pull to 5-5.5, which seems to be where people like SD/carry pistols to be.

Here is the install video in case you have not already seen it:

Thanks for the link. I have been on Apex's site quite a bit today and have watched the videos that relate to installing the Duty/Carry trigger kit. So I guess we could try this mod with the apex trigger return spring and with the factory one and see which feels the best.

I am guessing that adding an aftermarket trigger will not completely void the warranty.

Let's say an issue happens that is unrelated - cracked frame, barrel, slid on a semi, cylender on a revolver-

why would an aftermarket trigger job impact a flaw in the metallurgy in another part??
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                          (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

You are probably right. When I called S&W about six months ago for the same work to be done (the wait was about the same then) I was told that if I went with an aftermarket trigger or had someone else do a custom trigger job it would void my warranty. I didn't think to ask what aspects of the warranty would be voided as I was planning on sending both of our guns in when the panic subsided and their shop got back to normal.
As has been stated above, it's now time to look for alternatives since it doesn't look like S&W will be getting their act together any time soon.
In their defense, they did tell me that warranty work is only taking two to three weeks.

I think the warranty work and custom work are two different assembly lines. I've had warranty work done before which only took two weeks. S&W paid for shipping both ways via FedEx and I also got a free mag in return.

Trigger work, etc comes out of their custom shop which is understandable to have such a long lead time since they get a lot of requests for all their other products that come out of the S&W custom shop.

Are you looking for trigger work for sport shooting or for SD?

If its for SD, I've been told that you should keep the mods at a minimum to be "legally" defendable.
